Brand New Toshiba Laptop with SSD drive. Everything is excellent except every browser but edge is slow as a snail. I think it's just windows update that's screwed something up. Even a fresh install changes nothing. I've done about every google suggestion I can find.

Any one with a simple solution. Tried changing dns settings to google as well and nothing.

All other devices work fine on the same connection.

Test it over Ethernet or plug in a USB WiFi adapter and disable the integrated one. It's possible the issue is with the integrated WiFi adapter itself. Edge is a very fast browser and leverages cache very well. It's not a software problem if it does it even on a fresh install.

I have the same issue. I highly suspect Microsoft is "tweaking" and trying to show it is better than others. No big news here. My Laptop that run 1607 on a Cherry Trail Atom was fairly snappy in Chrome. Since 1703 it's really slow. It's much like companies who fake benchmarks by running tweaked versions of benchmark software.

It started with advertisements, now it's responsiveness. This is what happens when a company has grown big and no longer cares.

Conspiracy theory. You're running an Atom processor. That's the problem. If a newer build of Windows uses more resources, that's fine and is to be expected. If you were running a real processor, you wouldn't notice. Everyone these days should be running an i5 with an SSD. It's not the 1990's anymore. An i5 with an SSD should be standard. Even a 1st or 2nd gen i5 is better than most processors put into low end laptops sold today. If you can't afford $600 for a new laptop with an i5 and an SSD, then go with a 1st or 2nd gen i5 with an SSD for less than $300.

I have a new Core M3 laptop on the way, I got the X7 really cheap. But I do find it rather suspicious that Edge was better behaved than Chrome.

Let's just say that Microsoft is not innocent and perhaps on low end systems such "tampering" or "adjustments" are more noticeable. On a high end i3/i5 the same "tweak" could be applied but the available processing power would prevent you from recognizing it.

The real proof would be to test it on a Surface 3, which run an X7 CPU.

While the M3 isn't very good for high end video editing or gaming, it's still a respectable processor and can crunch numbers reasonably well. It will be comparable to a 1st or 2nd gen i5. You shouldn't see any real difference in speed between Edge and Chrome on an M3.

i have a toshiba c850 quad core 1.9ghz (2.9ghz with turbo boost) 8GB RAM and a SSD and sometimes i notice some slowliness, especially on facebook.
I don't use Edge very often but i do notice that when i do use it that the slowliness doesn't replicate

Do you have any proof of this?

Even if more people used Edge than Chrome, what, exactly, would MS gain?

Isn't it obvious? More faces to shove ads in front of!
Bing only gets about 10% of the revenue Google Search generates, especially considering that both Google and Yandex (Russian Google) deliberately modify searches.
You can make a lot more money if you own the bus the driver and the road!

OK so a possible benefit...

I repeat: does anyone have any proof of this?

Yeah cached sites seem to load well on Chrome too but going to a new site is ridiculously slow. NOT slow on edge however. I will try wifi adapter to see.

Wrong word. We have a hypothesis and (empirical) evidence, which is what is being presented.

Ah. So empirical evidence would also prove that our customers are right when they say that the slowness their computer is experiencing is caused by virus, rather than the dying hard drive that is the actual cause. Got it.

Or, you were being snarky, in which case I agree. Can't quite tell, though.

It would probably be easier to prove Moses had two sugars in his coffee!
But, seriously, just open your eyes to what's going on around you!

I am. Beside the anecdotal report here, can you point to any widespread reports of this?

If you think back, most manufacturer violations of the public trust (think MS and Lenovo for a moment) have been caught very quickly, AND proven.
