One of my current clients would like to upgrade their whole system now that xp is nearing its EOL.

I do not have much experience with auto repair shop software so I was hoping you guys could make some recommendations.

They have 7 locations with 2 workstations per location.
They currently use a very old version of mitchell (http://www.mitchell.com/auto-repair-shop-software/shop-management-software/index-auto-shop-software.asp)

They are looking for preferably a cloud based program for basic management of the shop. All locations must be "linked"

You can use something like ROWriter. I believe they just came out with their online version. But, I deal with another garage and just put them on the new version of Mitchell and that is online (much cheaper than ROWriter also)

The mechanics I service use Alldata. Just about every independent shop I've seen uses them for troubleshooting and repair guides. They provide OEM data, service bulletins, step by step instructions and the like. They are an online wealth of info. I wish we had such a resource in our trade.

No offense meant to TN which is a great resource that I really do appreciate!

Now some shops can take it further than just repair data. They have programs for shop management and such.

Even you guys who spin your own wrenches can join and buy data just for one or multiple vehicles for X amount of time. I've used them before.

A few smaller shops in my town use Autoshop Controller. It's okay but I would not recommend it for your client with multiple locations. Another shop we service uses Napa Tracs. Neither of these appear to offer hosted solutions which is probably going to work best for your client. If you don't find something decent that is hosted, you could always build them a terminal server and host it at their main office then run one of the localized shop management systems.

Just looked at SpannerPlanner. I'm going to send this info to my local shops we service. It looks decent.
