Any good alternatives to LogMeIn Rescue?

Are there any free/cheap alternatives to LogMeIn Rescue? I've just finished a two week trial, and while it is very good for the purpose, the fees put it out of reach for me. Some kind of VNC perhaps?

Stu:

Check for promotions! I am getting LogMeIn Rescue with mobile device support for $90 / month / per technician console. IT saves us from having to dispatch a technician all the time so we make up the cost in labor and fuel easily each month.

At this point I don't think that we could afford to not use it.

Prior to LMI Rescue we utilized Logmein Central and FREE quite a bit and that was also a good option. Even with Just FREE you can do quite a bit.

Teamviewer is your best remote tool. Used it to connect to my fathers pc and it was a instant connection. The file transfer option works beautifully. Its free for personal, and works very well.

You could use Ultravnc, but you have forward ports. Team viewer doesn't require to forward ports. So's its perfect for remote assistance.

Logme in rescue is really nice, but the thing can only be used for 14days and there is no file transfer option in the 14 day trial period.

Why pay $100 etc when team viewer has file transfer option included.

I just love that program.

I personally use Radmin its cheap and fast it stores all the info needed to connect to the customer you can connect even if the remote computer is not logged in like i said its a fast connection the only time it slows down is on basic dsl.

Does this have to be configured at the customers end or is it a easy download and run configuration? From the site it looks like the customer has to enter IP addresses etc.

Fixedathome yes you do have to configure it at the customers home or business. You install the server on there machine and then the security settings and then set the ports in there router to except port 4899 to the machines I.P. . I only use this for long time customers that I have done work for be for and for my maintenance contracts. I use single click uvnc for new customers

Here are my opinions. There are 3 types of technicians that use remote tools and why some should stay with LMIR and pay and why some should not.

1.) Remote support techs (like my business who do a lot of remote support calls)

LMIR is an awesome tool and it necessary for our business to run efficiently. I have 2 seats and am adding on a new seat. For those doing remote supports for business, here are my thoughts:)

Flipping computers back and forth from tech to tech, it's great
For keeping computers logged in to work on later, it's great
To track and record, it's great (although we don't record, no need)
We can file transfer from our dropbox software folders, it's awesome)
Reboot in safe mode rocks
Many other extras such as branding (which we do use)
Very cost effecient, as we use each seat daily constantly and pay $7 a day for all 3 seats total.

2.) the Techs that just remote in once in awhile
Probably not cost effecient for those that log into friends/family machines a few times a month

3.) the Techs that use Log me in free to log into their managed IT computers. I see the reasoning why you would use this for these reasons, but I still can never understand why these folks charge $100 an hour for a call and expect free remote services. I know it's Ok and all, but seriously if you moved to the paid version you could have much more and pay for services you are using. I have seen this in Minneapolis, companies doing managed IT that use LMI free and I don't get it why they think it's ok to use free when I have to pay. I could use free, but the hassle is so not worth it. We do so many fast remotes a day, we need the quick version and I LOVE IT.

I will pay for this always.

All the other stuff that requires clients to install and download/run =waste of time for a remote support company.

To put forward the opposing view on this - LMI Free is free for this kind of commercial use and LMI don't mind. The free version gives you a perfectly good, fast connection with the server you're working on. For many situations this is all you need. So then the question is: why pay if you don't need to?

If you need the added features then pay. If you don't then don't.

You may try Teamviewer. Our company uses it a lot to offer Remote Support to our customers. It is good!;)

Remote Software

I have been using the following site for my remotes:

ammyy dot com (sorry new and unable to post urls)

The remote tool is very easy to use, easy to have my clients to download and launch.

It is free if you are only using a few times a month. otherwise there are multiple payment options.

Just revisited this thread for research. I really appreciate all of these suggestions. I moved to a different town and closed my computer repair business (lots of competition at the time). With this "new" economy, I'm thinking about opening again but this time I want to focus on remote support for 80% of my business.

What I'm looking for is a remote support package that generates an invoice when the session is over. I've looked at this one http://www.remotesupportsystem.com/.

The pricing seems fair but I haven't seen it mentioned here. I really like the options it provides, especially the invoice generation. It takes some of the hassle away from me.

Has anyone used this software? If not, does anyone know of any other package that does auto invoices?

Thanks guys and gals. This forum and site are a wonderful resource.

Used a little period TouchMyPC but didn't had the best results. Been thinking on some alternatives for some time.

I've been evaluating GoToAssist Express and Logmein Rescue for the last month and have been quoted the following prices...

£588 (appx 955 US$) per year for LMIR
£350 (appx 570 US$) per year for GTAE

from my eval time its obvious they are both class acts - I love the simple clean GTAE interface, but LMIR has a real professional feel to it and has way more features and functionality -I immediately got the impression I was using a serious bit of kit.

If remote support is a key part of the business, I think, from what I've seen, LMIR is probably worth the extra...
