Advertising on Phonebook Covers -UPDATE!

Had an offer from a guy today.

2inch x 4 inch ad on the back of a phonebook cover. 1000 to be distributed
to the local chambers and banks. They are running 30 ads total on the local radio station (verified this) with rotating names of the business sponsors.

$120.00 total- regularly $250.00.

Would you do it?

"2inch x 4 inch ad on the back of a phonebook cover"

When was the last time you read an ad on the back of a phone book?.

If you think I am just blowing it off, ask yourself why this idiot is offering a $250 ad for only $120 ?.

I mean "Great deal!". "Get in now before all spaces are taken". "Wont last". :p

For $120 (one payment), I'd totally do it.

At the very least, it'll familiarize people with your name (and logo?), even if they never use your service themselves.

Thank you all for your replies. To answer some questions.
I confirmed their deadline is tomorrow afternoon --per Chamber of Commerce.
They do this every year. To be more specific- the add is on a VINYL phone book cover. Does this change anyone's mind on if it is worth it since it is not
on the actual phone book, but the vinyl cover??

Was really thinking about doing it, but don't want to be stupid with my dollars.
I could take the money and buy a Chamber of Commerce membership.

I would personally do the Chamber of Commerce membership before I do the phone book covers.

haha, my business joined my town's local Chamber (I later became a Board Member of the Chamber, still am) almost a year ago... it's more good than it is bad.
The advertising and exposure hasn't been what I hoped it would be (maybe your town's Chamber is different, very well could be) but who knows, maybe I'll land a big client through the chamber some day. :)

If it's a choice between the two (phone book/Chamber) I'd go Chamber and worry about the cover of the phone book next year.

I agree. I don't think many people even use phone book covers anymore, let alone read them. I haven't seen a vinyl phone cover in probably 20 years and I've lived in 4 states during that time. (including Ohio ;))

Spoke to the Chamber, they are a distribution point for the phone books.
The secretary said at least one half the people who pick up the books request the covers. Surprising! Plus the radio station guaranteed my business would be mentioned at least 10 times over the course of the 30 - 1 minute ads. It is a local country station that covers the Tri-State that I located in.

Hmmm...that has me leaning more towards a yes...

Pulled the trigger and gambled. Guess what it paid off. There was a message on my phone from Italo's Pizza (another advertiser) with a job almost equal to my advertising costs! They delivered the cover to the advertisers (left me 40 for my customers) this afternoon and they were experiencing computer issues..

The lady said she looked down and saw my ad! So happy!
