Hey there,

Just need a second opinion. I'm pretty sure I know whats happened just need comfirmation!

Picked up the following laptop from a customer because it was overheating. While taking a closer look at the base plastics the vents on the base where the fan should intake looks like it hasn't been cut out of the plastics.

What do you guys think? Sure is a funny one...

No, that's by design. Venting on that model is different even though the chassis looks like it should vent at that point.

If we look at the vent air intake, we may not find any vent there since the design is to have the vent from either left or right side of the laptop vent base to let the air getting in to the fan compartment at a certain angle to cause a little twisted flow, this can prevent the objects to get into the FAN comparment together directly with the incoming air flow.

The small vent designs also help to increase the air intake pressure at the plastic vents so no dust can be eailly clouster the vent.
Besides, the tiny vents also help to reduce the nosie level a little.

Just looking at the plastic vent, may look like a very small vent.
Perhaps this plastic vent really got out of specs and are extra small, I also doubed if there is enough airflow to cool the CPU though.

Cheers.

The venting in this machine is to help exhaust chassis heat at the same time provide cooling to the heatsink.

Not sure where you are getting a lot of the info you posted here, most of it is wrong.
