What do you all use to handle books, invoicing, payroll, etc.? I have used Paypal and Square to receive card payments. Wave now does my books since it is already connected to my bank account(plus it's free). I have a mentor who kinda insists that I switch to Quickbooks Pro Desktop.
I'm a small business corp. right now but in the future "we" might expand. Thanks for the replies.

This discussion has rolled around a few times in the past so you may want to work the search box a bit harder.

I use QuickBooks Online so it also takes care of mobile credit card payments too. I can stand in front of a customer, invoice them, and see them check my invoice on their phone. Definitely gets away from the "I never got your invoice" whine... In fact, I can see all my financials live at any time on my phone or tablet (but I do my bookkeeping from a desktop).

I would have simply clicked "Like" but that option seems to come and go from my browser. And I would have liked to like it more than once.

Square for CC. ERPNext for everything except payroll (I have a custom program for that). ERPNext has steadily improved, and gained features, since I started using it in 2014. At first I just used it for basic bookkeeping, Fixed Assets, Inventory & Financials in a VM. Eventually I started using more of the features and moved it to a self-hosted server. ERPNext is Open Source, Community Driven, and customizable. Because It is developed & used internationally, the terminology and some of the processes might be a little uncomfortable at first; regardless, there are several modules in this ERP that make it attractive to PC builders, computer repair shops, and service providers. Sorry, didn't mean to swing into a sales pitch. https://erpnext.org/

Tax preparer here. I tell my clients, "Get QuickBooks unless you know you need something else." If you have a tax preparer, you could ask them for recommendations.

QuckBooks Pro: entry-level, fine for most people. Expect ~$200 USD
QuickBooks Premier: more reports, more inventory features. Expect ~$300 USD
QuickBooks Enterprise: for folks who've outgrown Premier. (Say, more than 14,000 items or more than 5 users) Expect ~$1,000 USD annual subscription.
QuickBooks online: best for mobile devices, or for those using the software from multiple locations. Some of the more-advanced inventory features from Premier & Enterprise not available last I checked.

I hate when peole INSIST that you do something. I use Wave for my accounting, and I've looked into quickbooks Online. It's $30.00 a month for what I get from Wave for free (the cheaper plans on QB don't do what i can do on Wave). The only reason I can see to switch to Quickbooks is if you have an accountant that uses it and they can't use Wave. Otherwise, there is no need. It does the SAME thing as Wave. I think they only thing it doesn't do is some of the reports it prints out. If you don't need those reports you don't need QB.

I also run QB Premier. I have two licenses. Neither Pro nor Online have assemblies. So if you build a PC for someone, the invoice has to show each individual part. Before I got Premier, I would generate the invoice I wanted in Word to send to the client, so the invoice in QB with all of the detail wasn't seen by anyone but me. I update every three years, and I'm currently on 2016, so will be updating this fall when 2019 is released.

I use an online payroll service that exports transactions to QB. I have a merchant account with my bank for CC. We have a terminal in the shop and use Clover GO app on android phones to take CC payments in the field. They were one of the first ones to release a chip card reader for phones - we used them before, but that solidified our relationship a bit. Most of my analysis, projections and what-if scenarios are done in Excel.

Hmmm.... I see my QB Online (Simple version) is jumping to $20/month starting in July. $240 a year? It's time to switch to the desktop version (Pro) version. The switch would pay for itself in less than a year.

I caved in and purchased Pro. I'm about to start my Quickbook Youtube class.

Heh - I've been watching a YouTube conversion video from Online to Desktop. I remember when I started with Online it was $12.95/month and even then it was debatable whether it was worth it especially since QB makes you upgrade every three years on the desktop anyway. But at $240/annual for Online it's a no-brainer to move to Desktop ($190/3 years).

Bookkeeping... Hate it and I'm a CPA.

QB Premier configured for Professional Services. I looked at and quickly rejected QB Online. No two-way street between Desktop and Online. Desktop has highly tailorable reporting capability. Not real fond of its Inventory Mgmt, though. No Payroll.

FYI you don't have to upgrade after 3 years if the issue for you is that QB turns off the banking feeds after 3 years.

Two google searches and $50 fixed it for me qfx2qbo Convert . I use bank of america and they'll make you pay to download in QB format. OTOH CapitalOne does not.

I think I'll have a look at "ERPNext" thanks @Domaro

How much time should one plan to spend to download and configure for COA, Invty, Bookkeeping. A day, A week?

Using Payd Pro to process credit and debit. Quickbooks self employed to track expenses and invoice ninja for quotes, invoicing and time tracking.

May drop quickbooks at the start of next year but I don't feel like migrating half a years worth of data to invoice ninja.

I'm using Reckon One to do my accounting. I was dubious about cloud apps at first but being able to do an invoice on my phone and email it to the client before I leave has done wonders for me.

For credit/debit card I'm using Westpac's Mobile Payway terminal.
