I took over a company whose previous IT guy started dropping the ball all over the place ... My guess is he got a full-time job as he doesn't respond for days or weeks.

They are currently setup as 3 users under the E1 plan. My guess is their account is an older account when the only thing MS offered was E1 $8 (no business essentials for $5).

Can I buy 3 business essentials accounts, then just switch the licenses over from E1 to the new business essentials accounts without losing ANY data including mailbox data then just removing the E1 subscriptions?

Also, the "Call for help" button, you know the orange pop-up in the bottom right is missing. After some digging I found a message saying "Your subscription has been assigned to a partner, and you must contact them for support"

So I looked further and guess who their partner is? RESEARCH IN MOTION, LIMITED

Are you flippin kidding me? Their partner is Blackberry? LOL

I tried to go into the subscription and remove the partner information but that made no change to the availability of the Call for help pop-up, the only thing in the bottom right is "Feedback".

I called MS and put in a support request that way, hopefully they call me back.

The big thing is M$ will probably kick it back since a reseller is involved.

When you log into the sub what do you see? Can you change things like DNS?

Personally I think you should setup an account with someone like AppRiver. The existing customer account is tied to the "former" IT person so you need to move it to gain control and make some $. If you run a whois on the domain what do you see?

It appears as though I can modify the DNS, it is currently set as "Manage my DNS for me", so whoever set it up just gave O365 access to their domain to dump the MX records in there for them.

A WHOIS shows the domain registered at Network Solutions with Privacy enabled.

First thing is they need to gain control of the NS account. If they do not have any information you'll need to have them call support to get this process going. May take a few days and some documentation.

As I mentioned above, you should set up a partner/reseller account with someone. I mentioned AppRiver as that is who I use, others on hear as well. Been very happy with them and their support is really awesome. Then talk to them about migrating it over from RIM.

You can't move accounts/data between B and E licenses, you need to stay within the same family. You can do B to a different B plan, and you can do E to a different E plan. But you're not able to move across the different primary types. You would have to do a complete migration. Which, for just 3 users...easy peasy...pull to PST, open new account, change DNS...give a little time running on web mail on both for a day, close old account, setup new, push PSTs up.

As for moving the accounts to yours...if you wanted to keep them on the existing E1 plan or bump up to E3....depends on the provider. When we went on CSP we did migrate some clients on various other plans into our CSP. You've got to check with your Microsoft rep, if you're setup on a CSP.

As for at least giving yourself delegated admin access and that second thing which I forget the name of at the moment....as long as you can log in via an admin account...you can change those over. I always create an admin account for ourselves....you don't need a license for that, and it's a back door. And if you tie it to your partner system via delegated admin you can always log into their account through yours, via the Partner button in your login.
