10.8 released today / Ars Technica review

As usual, the accompanying ars technica review with another version of OSX introduced today. Well worth reading these reviews with any new release of OSX.

I downloaded 10.8, created a bootable USB and performed a fresh install on my 2011 13" Macbook Air on July 26th and have been using it solely since, but left my MBP and iMac running 10.7. My first impressions are that 10.8 seems to be more system intensive and I say this because the system fan kicks on much more often than it did with Lion. Over all its a nice upgrade and I like the most of the newer features.

However, today the system actually crashed as I powered down on my way to work. The screen showed the standard kernel panic gray screen telling me to press the power button to reboot. It rebooted fine with no issues and I sent the data to MAC for inspection. Other than this the only issues I have have witnessed are that Safari seems to crash more often now on sites that require/use Adobe Flash. Safari just closes completely no warning, no popup, nothing it just disappears.

Anybody else seen these issues?

As far as the fans kicking in more often on your other machines, you can download and install either istat pro, menumeters, or both for monitoring what might be making the fans ramp up (as well as actually see the RPMs through istat).

I did have two machines come in on 10.8 release day, where the installs failed and the machines wouldn't boot. Wasn't Apples fault on either case. One was a bad HD that happened to pop with loading the new system, and the other was a hosed directory structure that was more than likely hosed before the install. With Safari crashing, I haven't seen anything or even seen a forum post about it (at a quick glance) on the popular Apple forum sites. But with Apple and Adobe, it still doesn't surprise me. Apple has been trying to make OSX, iOS free of flash for a while now and from what I thought I heard, iOS6 will not support flash. I imagine you tried uninstalling/reinstalling flash or just uninstalling it completely?
