On unbootable PC's, you can also run Emsisoft Emergency Kit (EEK) from a USB by booting up a PE like Gandalf's.

Barcelona, my confusion initially was, if the pc is unbootable, then how can you boot it? But i realized you meant the hdd or ssd was unbootable, however of course a usb stick was NOT unbootable. hehehe. I do this sort of thing all the time. I don't know if you read about antiviruslivecd but you can put that on a usb stick, and just boot it. It's a bit of a trick to non linux people to update it, but for those well versed in linux, it's a breeze to update the definitions and scan the system from usb with linux, windows won't care. lol.

Almost every major security vendors have some live CD to scan and (eventualy) repair.
But honestly, if infected, I wipe the drive and clean install, i don't have time to fix. Not saying advanced malware leave many remnants/contingencies so a basic cleaning (if they let it even possible) is useless.
To be a professional malware remover, some technical courses must be taken (bleepingcomputer.com used to offer one)
Just scanning with tools is not enough.

Yehhh, I assumed most people already knew that. However, the reason for this post is to quickly view multiple options for this vector. While almost everyone should nuke and pave in every circumstance, there are rare times when a scan type removal is requested or needed for a variety of reasons.

I'll temporary kill off the malware to save clients data but once I've had access to what it's needed n&p and I really don't give them much of a choice, oh on some systems programs that act like malware but are not are also taken care of via the host and a few other locations to tame the application (should it be more useful alive than dead) but ya clear it and clean it..

So what do you do in the situation where the customer has programs installed that you don't nor they don't have the serial key anymore? Or, the Windows COA? Are they made to pay for all that over again? Just curious.
If a client comes in and wants virus removal, thats what they get. Nothing more. I have different tiers of removal (3) and the last one is a N&P but all too often they have some program they can no longer get (or I for that matter) and they don't want a N&P. I leave it up to the customer as to what level they want, but I'm not about to hand hold or babysit any customer after service is done.

I agree. N&P is my last choice. Two weeks ago I decided to N&P my own machine in an attempt to resolve a Bluetooth issue that happened after I decided to install a windows insider version on my laptop. I tried everything to get my Bluetooth working again and finally gave up. I used Fab's to back up my data. Did a N&P and still spent half the day reinstalling programs and re-configuring the system to get it back to where I like it.
I have a SSD so putting Windows 10 back on only took a few min but it was everything else that takes a long time.
I won't do this to my customers unless it is a last ditch option as it was in my very own case.

This is for extreme cases I'll usually backup the system and rip the registry out and have a checklist of the clients software, if it's a non commercial client no proprietary software I'll gladly tell them what they are about to lose but at the same time if I see a repeating Trojan that cannot be cleaned accurately I let them know and they can decide if they want to risk having it back (With no warranties) or a clean slate with assistance in getting up to par. As for businesses you ain't got the disks to re-install, that malware is the least of your worries. I'm not there to scam my clients but I'm definitely not putting my name on a system that I know will end up totally trashed in the end.

Another that needs adding to the list is Trojan Remover, as it says on the can it is a specialist remover for trojans that full AV packages do an untidy job on and tend to leave a lot of litter around. Trojan Remover from https://www.simplysup.com/
