After talking to some very helpful TN members (PCX and Craig) I have decided the best bet for my business with only having a scooter (looks more like a motorbike and can do 70kmph) is to approach things in the following manner.

If it is a laptop I will onsite it no matter the issue as I can bring it back np.

If it is a desktop I will ask on the phone for details and based on what I decide I will ask the customer to bring it to me if I deem it to be something id need to fix at home. If it is fixable on site though I will just go on site.

This means that 80% of problems can be solved on site and the remaining 20% maybe less would need the client to bring the PC to me which for most people this should not be an issue and the ones who do have an issue with this I could alternatively pick it up via a relative taking me which if they strongly cant drop it off would probably satisfy them.

I think approaching it in this matter would be the best way as mobile techs still get pcs dropped of anyway and some work purely from home.

What do you guys think of this? is it likely to work? personally I cant see why not as like I said you need to factor in laptops and desktop issues that can be easily fixed on site.

Thanks.

For some customers on-site won't work: for whatever reason it may not be convenient for you to repair at theirs. Also from a billable hours perspective, some customers will not be able to afford an hourly rate for the repair. Another issue with doing all onsite is that it decreases the efficiency of your time a lot.

For example, if I am onsite, I am usually working on one machine. However, in my workshop I can be working on 4 at once through a KVM and doing a remote support session at the same time, billing for all 5 jobs but doing them in a fraction of the time it would take to do each separately in different locations.

Consider offering a pickup and delivery service (see PM). It will allow you to throughput a lot more repairs and serve more customers who otherwise might not be able to use your service.

yeah, the one thing I suggested is to do as much at your house as possible for those very reasons. Besides, you cannot do a proper diagnostics and expect to bill for it and the repairs at someones house, its just not reasonable in most cases. Most people, in my experience, are willing to drop it off at your house.

It will be interesting for you to let us know if that 80% - 20% ratio holds up over time in your area. As you seem to have decided to use a scooter that discussion is moot. Good luck.
