work is picking up

So what do you mean by fixed pricing then ? Does it mean like you charge a fixed amount no matter how long you are there at the job for.

Yes, that's about the size of it. You need to be confident in your abilities and you'll need to learn to filter out the crap jobs before you book them, you'd be surprised at some of the ancient junk that people offer up for service - a system that was slow running XP in 2001 after it was upgraded from Windows 95 is hardly going to set the world on fire eight years later no matter what you do to it, and it'll take you twice as long to do the job as a modern PC. Watch out too for stuff with bootleg operating systems too, they can be a real pain to update and are a sure sign the owners don't like parting with money!

Basically, you have to be a lot more selective than you would if you were on an hourly rate.

We're having a partularly bad time in Ireland. Unemployment just hit 10% up from 5% a year ago. We're still sliding downhill. I'm being challenged on my prices daily by people, who up til now, have never questioned me at all. Giving them a fixed price or at least a maximum price seems to solve most of this.

please post it

I'd like to see your BAILOUT PROGRAM flyer, please post it

We have a big amount of mall type parking lots around so I put flyers on cars there. The flyer reads "BAILOUT PROGRAM" across the top, and has a coupon for computer cleanup @ 45.00 (reg cleaner, temp cleaner, virus/malware scan, case cleaning)....

If you can't beat em, join em haha. I will post it if anyone wants to use it. Just have to remove the company logo (flyer is in PSD)

Hey sorry I didn't post it last night , got pounded in website work. I know a couple of you would like a copy so I will definitley post it tonight.

So far I only sent out a small amount (like 50) because I ran out of paper, go figure . Just stocked up to 1000 and starting to print now. I am planning to get these out Friday night and Saturday morning - the lots are always packed at that time....hopefully this will go somewhere!

I've had no appointments today but it did give me time to write out my website content or atleast start it. I have a guy collecting his pc tommorow, lovely £40 :D

Hey ProTech, did you ever post this?

This week was great. Sunday I got at the top of the Google local search list with my area. This week I've already had 6 customers and they all found me from Google. Hopefully this keeps up. :D

This week an old lady phoned me cause her UPS was beeping and the PC was not working. So I went to check at her earliest to find it was something with the UPS (that was easy lol). Gave her a spare UPS to use, hers is 600VA the one I gave her was 800VA and told her to use that till I check out what's the problem. She was so happy with that as she could use MSN now :p

Her system is a 2 year old system and the UPS never had any problems, so I thought it must be the battery. Connected the UPS at home (P3 system) and it worked fine, my sister used it for hours playing on Neopets! Thought it was the battery and it is charged now. What I did wrong was that I concluded early without checking the alarm codes on their website and gave the UPS back to the old lady. Looks like it worked well for 2 days and it has the same problem now.

I don't remember the alarm but I think the battery needs to be replaced, as I think 600VA is enough and if it's not enough it would have stopped working ages ago. I've just started so my experience is very low compared to some of you. What do you think?

To stay on topic... this was the only job I've got this week. Last week had three jobs :) All word of mouth.

I've been in the biz around 8 years and have noticed that the spring time will always be your slowest months. People are outside doing spring time type stuff and don't worry so much about their computer
