Work Bench

What did you make your power strip out of?

Very nice set up's. I will post pics next week. My office is somewhat organized. I have 4 spots for desktops and some room for laptops. We have a reception area where the clients come in to get their machines, we boot up while they are there and show off the repairs, have them sign work orders, pay etc. No more clients in the workshop. Yes, I used to them all in.

No smoking in my shop, I smoke outside only. I can't smoke in my shop, the building would all smell it LOL

Man, this thread is really making me anxious to get in to my new office. I really can't wait. I'm thinking of having a monitor keyboard, and mouse set up on the counter so when someone drops off their system I can hook it up right there and turn it on before the cutomer leaves. That way I don't get burned on something, and I can see the specs and if there are any passwords needed. I'm working on my back end stuff right now like prices, forms, processes, etc.

I am planning on setting up my shop in my garage. Just a regular garage now, dirty and all, but I am looking at using one side of it for my work area, maybe get some kind of rug or garage flooring too. Do you think I would need to insulate it? Any others using their garages?

Forbegos

I have been working out of my garage since fall 08.
I dressed it out to make a good impression for clients who come here. it is really comfortable for me and I can have a few different machines cooking at the same time. (Love my pegboard)
I am thinking about taking a storefront in the next few weeks and will hope to pretty much duplicate what I have at home.

From the outside looking in.

This is my porta-bench I have an 1380va APC on the bottom shelf

This is the left side of bench

This is the right side of bench

Love your setup Graystar.. Only have one question.

How do you find standing on the concrete all day? I found that at the end of the day, my feet were cold and aching, and my legs damned sore..

So I made a duckboard.. really only similar to a pallet, but much larger, with the spaces much closer.

I've only had it for around a couple of months or so, and have found the difference to be huge.. feet aren't on the cold floor all day, theres some bounce with the timber, and legs don't ache.. just a thought :)

Graystar I love the setup in your garage. Just got my business license and been thinking about using my garage for my setup. Love the idea of the pegborad with all that stuff hanging :)
Think my summer project will be converting the garage into a shop :) Ideas anyone??????

Who's standing?
People laugh when they see it but the two chairs are wheeled and I roll from station to station. I will roll to the porta-bench and start a process and spin around and do something at the repair station, then roll over to the Shop PC and look up something or do an invoice.
I found a used office furniture store close by and I keep dropping in till I got what I wanted, HON chairs are the best. the black one was designed for workbench work and will literally elevate the seat to 33" off the floor. the burgundy one stays normal height but I got them for $65 and $35 each. a great chair makes all the difference.

Monitor Arms

Fry's - they swing out about 18" & it swivels up & down & side to side.

they were about $35 each

If you want a more detailed shot let me know

Another option to consider...

I have a small bench but these days I rarely place computers on it anymore. I find it much more convenient to use rolling task chairs to hold my systems.

I picked up 3 of the cheapest armless task chairs I could find similar to this model on sale for $30 each. For my purposes I assembled them without installing the back rest so basically you get a hight adjustable rolling spinning stool. It gives you a lot of flexibility in terms of positioning a system as you work on it.

Good Idea

But I needed to get as many CPU's in a smallest area as possible.

Like most businesses it comes in waves - 10 machines today, none tomorrow.
