Windows USB for HP all-in-one?

I told him to Nuke and Pave
You told him to N & P ? Are you confident he knows how to do that, only, from what I've heard so far, he doesn't seem that clued-up about this sort of stuff...and besides, you could charge him to do it. At least he'd be getting it done properly. I don't imagine he's got a copy of FABs etc...

No no...I am only suggesting the solution. I doubt that he would try to do such an operation. He is not tech-oriented at all. Would never suggest he do it himself. Especially this guy. Sorry i gave that impression.

His Windows copy can be taken from the recovery partition when install is ready to be done. Im not sure what he wants to do. He is in Mississippi and I am in Florida so i'm not counting on doing anything.

These days a N&P recovery is just a click or two on the Win10 menu. A client can easily do it.

^^^^ This. You can do it remotely up to a point and then they can go from there. Seem to remember that after you hit the Reset this PC Get started button you get the keep data or wipe choice. After that there may be a confirmation but then it's off to the races.

I doubt this guy will attempt such a thing. but seems to me that you can remote up to restart, then just carry the rest of the way over the cell phone with the client telling me what the screen says. Then I can have him reinstall the remote software once his system is up.

So if he is a client why are you not fixing it for him. Does he even know what nuke and pave means. If I would have gotten this call I would have said yeah sounds like a fake remote service. Best to drop the computer off so I can scan and make sure it is safe. I wouldn’t go into how to fix it but just say it needs to be looked at. If he is remote only then I would have remoted in and charged.

Just make sure he doesn't try to google a support tech to do it for him.

Last thing you want is him getting taken for another ride on your suggestion

he is a family friend who messaged me at midnite all in a panic because the MacAfee people were remoting his PC and his hair on the back of his neck was up thinking he was getting screwed. so he wanted my opinion. which i first said 'why didnt you call me first?' But i am just helping him because he is a friend and I could use a positive review. thats all.

He had just received his new HP all-in-one that day, installed nothing but maybe two common things but that his PC started acting slower. He uninstalled but that didnt fix it.

Somehow he called MacAfee. Either they or that other company did a remote and installed a 3-yr license of MacAfee firewall. For $160.

HE DIDN'T CALL MCAFEE. I can't make it any plainer than that. If he did they told him to buy a copy and hung up on him. THEY DO NOT OFFER ANY REMOTE SERVICES. And that Fegon Group advertises selling all sorts of AV programs.

And his system is probably running slow because he purchased a low end All in One unit which are glorified laptops with slow 5400 RPM drives and 4 GB of memory. A Walmart special. They are barely able to run Windows so if you install anything they turn to crap.

this is his system. its decent athough i havent researched the chip. if it were me, i'd simply N&P and call it a day. its a brand new unit. he likes it so there is no use ripping on the All-in-One at this point.

McAfee doesn't have remote in services. It's fake.

Well, not quite. They do offer support for about $85.00:
https://www.mcafee.com/consumer/en-us/store/m0/catalog/pvrs_311/mcafee-virus-removal-service.html

"McAfee Security Expert takes control of the computer remotely. McAfee will scan the PC, Identify any unwanted applications or malware and remove them."

I'm not willing to pay the $85 just as an experiment, but I wouldn't be surprised if they offload the request to a third party that gets $5 plus whatever they can hose the client for.

Oh I can certainly imagine that is going on. he said everything seemed like clockwork.

'Customer calls Macafee technician. Technician A throws up his hands. Technician B called and declares malware but throws up his hands. technician c is called and makes a call to the third party who sells the firewall to a freaked out customer'

Not really. That AMD is an entry-level single memory chanel chip. The 8GB is good but probably the max it can address. That HDD is exactly what I described. A slow 1tb 5400 RPM that the market is saturated with and can't get rid of fast enough. This thing will be slow but an SSD upgrade will help it out quite a bit.

I still don't understand how you call McAfee (supposedly) and complain your PC is going slow then get sold on a $160 firewall to speed it up.

Also a 3 device license of McAfee total protection which includes av, firewall, file blocker and more is under $30/year.
