Windows update error 800F081F

The RAM was not the issue with Windows Update and like I said, the errors didn't show up in the initial diagnostics. The only reason I ran the diagnostics again was because the PC started to blue screen (after been sat on my bench for a couple of days) and the error related to a memory issue. Swapped the RAM out and it sorted the blue screen.

In regards to the Windows Update error, the only suggestion that worked was a repair install.

But you don't know that, as it failed just a few days later. It might well have been unpredictable, depending on circumstances (temp., rate of read/write, addresses rarely used, DMA quirks, ...), for a long time before.
