Windows Live Essentials

Movie Maker is as good as any free program and simple to use. Gallery is OK. Live Writer is a very good blogging tool, and highly regarded.

Some people like Mesh for syncing between PCs and Macs, but I've never seen the need with Dropbox available.

actually I prefer to un-install live essentials... lol

Ditto. If a customer is actively using WLE, I hide it in the Optional updates. If it needs updates, it'll get it but I don't want them adding crap because they mistakenly think they're supposed to install it.

(Edit: Gonna add that every customer that I can remember that had WLE installed, was only using Messenger and nothing else. Since everything gets checked by default ... that's bloatware)

Not sure if it's an option on WSUS or not to make it available depending on categories selected.....I'd not be surprised that it's not. Live Essentials is aimed more at home owners, with WSUS being an SMB/Enterprise product.

I tend not to like most of the bloat that comes with Live Essentials..bloat/performance sapping stuff like search, bingbar, etc....the only related product I like is MESH...I use it myself. Much more than Dropbox IMO. Synch selected folders such as Documents....sure, that' easy and handy. But other little details like synch Outlook settings such as my signature. And the best feature....a VERY slick RDP proxy to connect to designated computers much like logmein, in the same "don't care about IP address/firewall settings manner". And it has the good performance of RDP.

In defense of Windows Live Essentials, it does include Windows Live Mail which is the replacement for Outlook Express. On the other hand, you have to jump through a lot hoops to install a simple email client which most home users aren't prone to using anyway.
