"Windows is dead"

Funny the way Repugs defend what seems to be their choice news service by bashing other people without basis.. as if that action exonerates or defends their news service or furthers their cause.

Just keep watching Fox and for heavens sake don't fact-check anything!

The irony here is that is what I was pointing out about the poster I referenced because we all know the mainstream media are 100% spot on when it comes to facts. Either way this is not the forum for politics no matter what way you lean. Thanks for playing tho.

You brought it up first, thanks for sticking to your own rules. You directly attacked a poster for his POV which prompted a response.. you are not above anyone here.

Actually no I did not ... He attacked my news source ...
And no I never claimed to be above anyone but thanks for putting words in my mouth.

Well, that's a lovely hole you guys are digging together, but why don't you put down your shovels and join us up here? :)

There was a time when this forum's users would stand up other users when being attacked. Sorry, peanut gallery, for defending HankArnold's ability to have an opinion. If ScrewLoose can't accept feedback on his own postings without scalding others, perhaps he shouldn't post at all. But whatever.

You want some cheese?

Good opinion article on where the PC is hopefully heading. (Yeah I know it is PCWORLD but it's still a good read.)

I think I would prefer they stay appliances. I do not want an evolution, unless it takes notes from HP's Z1. I'm sick of Apple's "revolutionary designs" and people aren't interested in them once I tell them that for a Retina Macbook a battery replacement would cost $500 because you have to replace half of the computer. And why does a battery need an interposer anyway?

If it was not for Apples "revolutionary designs" all desktop computers would still be beige boxes with floppy drives and your phone would still look like the Nokia 3000. As for the expensive battery replacement: I think most people will be upgrading computer long before the battery dies. Once I tell them about the hundreds of dollars they will save in virus removal over the life of the computer and the fact that its a metal computer VS cheap plastic fisher price garbage. Just sayin'.

So, back to the topic at hand...

Microsoft posts record third quarter revenue in spite of flat Windows numbers

Somehow, Microsoft has thus far staved off collapse. :) What Windows 8 haters (myself included) have to remember is that Microsoft has the financial resources of a small country. This, combined with their near-monopoly position in the PC market, gives them plenty of leeway for mistakes like ME, Vista, and, arguably, Windows 8. The tech press can write all the overwrought headlines they want, but Microsoft is doing just fine.

When you put it that way, Windows OS releases sound like the Star Trek movies; every other one is terrible.

For the most part, they are. ME was terrible and Vista was god awful. Vista came a long long way since launch, but it was the end result of Microsoft rushing a product out the door to save face. They wouldn't be beaten by OS X Leopard.

Essentially windows 7 is what vista should have been. A good product. Windows 8 is a continuation of refinement for what windows 7 was. Many people get their panties all in a bunch over the metro UI. I maintain that they just like to b!tch. Many free utilities bring back the start menu and start button. There are rumors of Microsoft officially bringing that interface back as well.

I've been using Windows 8 with the start8 application to give back the desktop and my machine has been rock solid stable. It's as fast or faster then it's ever been. I've had very very little compatibility issues.

In a corporate environment I can see there being more problems with compatibility. I can also understand why the "shell" applications aren't a suitable solution for a business environment. What if Microsoft pushes an update that disables/breaks them? You would wind up with offices full of people who can't do anything on their machines and more service calls then you can shake a stick at! But anyone versed in the industry knows that new operating systems are almost never adopted right away. For one reason or five others, businesses tend to stick two to three generations behind on operating systems.

Exactly.. If it wasn't for steve jobs stealing people's ideas, nobody ever would have thought of those ideas or improved computers in any way. Out of the billions of people on this earth, not one of them could possibly have done what apple did. They are such an amazing, innovative, paradigm-shifting company, we may never see the likes of again.

If jesus christ came down to earth today, he could not possibly create a computer as well designed as a mac.

...

...

I think you exceeded the threshold for fanboy title.. I'll let you know when I come up with something better.
