Hello all,

I have a question for you guys, now i am no tech pro yet nor do i work in the field i usually just do small jobs for friends and family, anyway for the past few days i have been gathering some apps on my 2 GB SanDisk Cruzer USB flash such as ccleaner, firefox, spybot, avg, clamwin ect... in which i can use on these jobs and on my PC's i also decided to download Windows Media player 11, Internet Explorer 7, Windows XP service Pack 2 just to make my life easier and to have it there for installing, i can't quite remember what sites i got them from exactly but my question is, is there anyway i can find out if they are genuine or legit ? i heard about MD5 has but i have no clue on how to do that or where to find the correct MD5 hash numbers for them ?

Any help would be appreciated

Oh another question as well, i heard that there is a site or program that you can check that makes updating a freshly installed windows installation much easier by downloading or installing all the updates and such at once rather then restarting and going for hours anyone know anything of this tool or site ?

Autopatcher is a collection of every windows update since service pack 2, bunched together in one big file. It includes IE7 and WMP11 too.

If you don't know what the original MD5 checksums are, then you can't find out if the file is intact or if it downloaded correctly. MD5 doesn't tell you if it's genuine though. It only tells you whether or not the downloaded file is an exact copy or if it is corrupt. I would suggest downloading a copy from Microsoft's website and avoid using the ones you've got.

Yeah i figured that, thanks alot for the help i heard of the autopatcher but forgot the name thanks again :D

Yeah Autopatcher will do the job.
In the future im sure you will see more and more hashes to verify files. Here is something that will make the whole proccess a bit more user friendly.

"HashTab is a Windows shell extension which adds a tab called "File Hashes" to the Windows Explorer file properties. The tab contains the MD5, SHA1 and CRC-32 file hashes. These are common hashes that are used to verify the integrity and authenticity of files. Many download sites list the MD5 hash along with the download link. The HashTab makes it very simple for Windows users to check these hashes on any file on the system without using external tools"

Yeah i agree, going to start it up right now :D

BTW: Knuckles i seen both those links, i've read every single one of the articles on the homepage haha any OTHER suggestions as to what should be put on a USB stick for usage ?

Ok so i have a few questions for you guys concerning this "autopatcher" after fixing a laptop for a neighbor and spending countless time updating due to me not just listening to you guys and downloading this autopatcher program i am finally going to stick it on my USB tool kit.

Questions are:
A) Do you need ANY internet connection to install any of these update what so ever ?

B) Should i just download the patcher and put it straight on my USB stick and install it straight to the clients/users pc or do i need to break it down somehow or something ?

C) Does this thing require windows to be activated and genuinely validated at the moment to work ?

Sorry for the silly questions but I'm tired right now just got home and I'm just wondering those few things, thanks for all the helpful responses so far it is much appreciated :)

You do not need any internet connection, once you have downloaded autopatcher. Nor do you need to break it down in anyway.

Simply run the program and it will decide which critical updates are required and list any non-critical updates, which you simply need to go through and tick.

You don't need a genuine activated copy to install and run autopatcher, however the machine will need to be validated to run Windows Media Player 11 and IE7.

I hope that answers your questions :)

Yup that about answers it all, i figured that all but since my home computers are all up to date i can't really test it for updating so i wanted to ask to avoid getting a surprise at the last minute, thanks alot simmy :)

Crazy that just a couple of days ago you guys are recommending this autopatcher and now they are closing their download section due to a microsoft, great tool from what i've seen :(
