Windows / AVG issue

I have a machine in now with Windows 10 that won't boot.
I have imaged the drive, none of the startup repair options work.

SFC in Win RE fails half way through.
checkdisk hasn't found anything.
One of the logs points towards a corrupt AVG fiule that doesn't exist.
AVG suggests renaming all of the AVG ",sys" files in the system 32 folder to ".old" to disable it but that doesn't work either

I wanted to do a repair install but MS have made that option available only from within windows.

Will this be a format and reinstall jobby or is there some way I can uninstall AVG with the drive plugged in to our machine ?

Have you tried booting with a WinPE disk? You may be able to run the uninstaller for AVG or download and run their removal tool?

Just Nuke and Pave. I can install Windows 10 in 5-15 minutes. Not worth the time fraking with it.

Windows yes, but then there is the backing up of the data, finding out what programs need reinstalling.
dealing with some stupid family tree software (or such like) and its nuances etc etc
then the user will say i used to just click and get my email and now it has gone, how does it work ? etc.

Fixing it is always preferable for these reasons.

If you were not the one to put \AVG on it then tough tittes then. They can pay for all the above to be done. But in some cases you are correct about fixing. But many times the hassle of fixing is not worth the money .

You can give it a try with Lazesoft Recovery Suite. It works great, in my experience.

never used this before, I've just booted with it now and I have a command line,
I assumed from your post I would land at a desktop environment ??
