Windows 8 ... Wow.

I have had a couple clients call in just about in tears over Windows 8. The most common complaint is that their programs don't work and they find it extremely frustrating to use. Some have returned laptops and bought Windows 7 laptops from me instead so it's good for business :D

Same here. So far a few have simply said "get this crap off my computer and put Windows 7 on it". Gladly. :)

well where I work they are upgrading all of the systems to windows 8 pro this summer, and I've grown quite fond of it on my personal computer as well. I do notice windows 8 preforming faster in a lot of area's and the only thing ive done to make it how I want it is start8, i could have used classic shell but I don't like its icon.

The hate for windows 8 I understand, but this is the direction microsoft is heading, and well know linux is not a good alternative for customers, none of there programs will work, and maybe I'm alone but I'm not interested in configuring wine every time a new game or program comes out. We simply have to adapt to it. I learned my lesson when I stayed on windows 98 till 2006 and moved straight to Vista because 98 just worked, i had to play catch up and it wasn't simple.

Install a Start Menu replacement if needed and forget about the Start Screen if it is a nuisance.

If you have 8 Pro, underneath it all are some pretty cool features like Storage Pool, File History and Bitlocker (which was previously only available with Ultimate)
There are quite a few Windows Explorer enhancements as well.

Admittedly I hated it at first but slowly finding stuff to like.

I totally agree! I hated Windows 8 PRO initially because I couldn't find anything because of the simplified "touch-screen design." However, once I installed Start8 and learned how to navigate properly, I actually like it better than Win 7. Now, don't get me wrong, there is a moderate learning curve but good things come to those who are patient.

Windows 8 has been a colossal failure and is now known in the same light as Vista was when it was released into the marketplace. My customers are buying PCs with it installed and they comment as an aside they wish they hadn't. Think about that for a minute. Paying $500, $700, a $1,000 for a product they do not really like. Sure it's fast. Sure its flashy and when you figure out all the neat little hidden tricks it does - its pretty cool. But end users aren't geeky and they usually don't like that kind of stuff. They just need to use PC to accomplish tasks - plain and simple. Windows 8 stops them from being efficient at that. And that makes them frustrated and mad.

And this is not just my opinion. This is now fact. Evidence the entire editorial world is now writing about this failure. Hell the president of the Windows division at MS was fired over it just two weeks after its not so glorious roll-out and now there is chatter that Balmer may be stepping down because of it! Just about every news outlet has lambasted Microsoft over Windows 8 and is being blamed as the cause of the massive slide in PC sales last quarter (15%). Dell is ******. HP is ******. Don't even mention JT Wang the CEO of Acer. The software was made for a touchscreen device and 90% of that software is being installed on are devices that do not have touchscreens. Have you tried Windows 8 on an Surface Pro tablet? It freakin rocks! Not so much with a mouse on any device. It ain't made for non-touchscreens!

Nice to see MS will revise and release Win8 for free and include the desktop and start button. My customers will be back into familiar territory and their frustration levels will subside. Hopefully PC sales will recover from this terrible downturn but some how I think this will just hasten its decline. Damage has been done.

What he said ^^^^^^^^

Well put Wheelie. Every new version of Windows that has came out had the familiarity to enable the user to hit the ground running bar Windows 8. I had a business lady who couldn't wait for me to reload her Vista Business computer and went out and bought a new one. She freaked out when she got home and saw 8. Had to quickly load Classic Shell before she exploded. :)
