Windows 8 the most unintuitive OS to date

I spent a few hours using Win 8 on my laptop and even with a keyboard and laptop touchpad it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Once you realize how everything works you see that it is a really intuitive OS.

My biggest issue is that there is no Bob.

Stop Trying To Force It To Be Windows 7.

Everyone did this to Vista, too... and Windows 95. It's not the OS's fault people won't progress in their desktop use.

Anyone have a Windows phone? For some reason nobody minds that interface... AND IT'S THE SAME. On top of that, people switch between that, iOS, WebOS, BlackBerry, and Android all without bitching. For the love of crap SHUT UP ABOUT IT ALREADY.

Not sure I understand what you are saying. Are you actually calling the abomination ******* child of Windows and Android progress? Just because its new does not make it progress, or better or even useable. Vista was a case example. There is nothing wrong with win7. There was zero need for all this "progress" you speak of. It only makes the OS harder to use. Its simply change for the sake of change so all the idiot hipsters can say they have the newest thing.

Windows phone? Ah, the key word here is PHONE. This kind of interface is not bad on a phone. My desktop system with its 27" non-touch screen is not a phone.

Some of us like a bit of consistency in our everyday lives. Neither I or any of my customers want to learn a whole new interface every f**kin' year.

I'm not sure why other people's opinions about operating systems are so upsetting to you, but hey. A couple of points:

1. There's a big difference between a desktop computer and a touchscreen phone/tablet. What works well on one may not necessarily work well on the other.
2. I've been testing Windows 8, and I find it hard to use. Microsoft either needs to go all-in on Metro, or ditch it and use the familiar interface exclusively. This half-assed attempt at smashing the old and new interfaces together seems like the worst of both worlds.

You just made the core of my point much more clear, considering Windows 7 is nothing but a polished Vista. There are thousands of users who still refuse to move beyond XP, because they feel just as backwards as you all seem to. If MS went with pure Metro, you'd all complain that you don't have your precious desktop. All you're doing is trying desperately to force 8 to be 7, just like you tried to force vista to be xp, and so on. Just... go back to DOS, and stop testing New Technology releases if you don't like New. Obviously, you aren't the target.

Actually, that statement is just stupid, sorry. Its not often that I just bluntly say that something someone said is stupid, but there it is.

While I do agree that some refuse to embrace and even fear the advances and development of technology, is not the case here. In fact, I am one of those who constantly preach to "get used to it" or get out of the business.

Simply put, Windows 8 is very unusable in a desktop environment. Most desktops do not have touch screens and even those that do, I have not found 1 person that uses the touch screen past the first week (the honey moon oh this is so cool stage).

While this new desktop interface may be good for tablets and phones, its not for the average laptop and desktop. No one is trying to force Windows 8 to be Windows 7, but the simple fact of the matter is, if its not broke, do not fix it. In fact, there really is no real reason for Windows 8 to even come out at this point of time. For what it is (and I literally mean for what it is) its a solid OS and has a lot of room in which it can be improved. Until we really start getting away from laptops and desktops, there is no reason why they should so dramatically change the desktop interface. Regardless of that, it should be option or there should be a version for mobile devices and desktops / laptops.

Actually Win 7 is what Vista should have been ... and I certainly am not trying to force Win 8 to be Win 7. Instead I would like an interface that is intuitive and offers the ability to do things better, simpler and be organized in the process but if I have to navigate through a clunky tablet like interface on my desktop I am not going to be happy.

You keep throwing the word progress around like it is a badge. "You have to use this in the name of PROGRESS! or else!" Well no I do not when it isnt actually progress but a mish mash of half thought out ideas that somebody thought would look cool because they use their Smart Phone more than they do their desktop.

If MS goes ahead blindly with this release and does not listen to their customers then this will be another Vista but worse.

Remember just because it is the latest thing does not mean it is progress.
 
My Opinion

Looked at Beta Evaluation edition. This past weekend. I agree WHAT A DISASTER !!! WTF was Microsoft thinking ???

Yes there are many users who refuse to go beyond XP. Do you understand why? Not because all of them fear change but because XP worked and worked damn good. There still very few every day tasks that most people do that cannot be done on a decent XP machine. Im not trying to force Win8 to be win7, I'm trying to make win 8 useable, and in its current form its not. I also never tried to force Vista to be XP. XP worked perfectly and Vista was a train wreck. Windows 7 is a solid OS. At least as much as XP was and all of this "fixing" was un-needed. Its funny that you say I should stop testing new tech. Right now I'm using Linux Mint 12, and OS X Mountain Lion. Loving both of them. Seems Win8 is the only one I'm having issues with. You said I'm obviously not their target. Tell me who is. The kid that likes to say he has the latest thing because his windows has an 8 on it? I get it. the same type of people who would not buy the iPhone 4s because it did not say 5 on it.

I'm a much larger and older version of that kid. I did, however, buy the iPhone 4S :p. Keep testing tech...I will.

We've read this book before...remember Microsoft granting Vista users free downgrade (or did they try and call it an upgrade...can't remember) rights to XP? I guess the ole saying "history repeats itself" rings true once more.
