Wow i set up a demo of windows 8 and most customers hate it once you get into internet explorer most people can't figure out how to get back to the metro ui lol i think this will stop most people from using it.

As proof check out this video: How Real People Will Use Windows 8

man tries Windows 8 for the first time

With customers they all had the same problems none of them like it at all.

I found a reg hack that lets you turn off the metro UI,

MS need to make it easier for people to turn that crap off if they want to (I mean REAL easy, like part of the initial setup process being the best place to start)

Thought that only worked on the Dev Preview, no the Consumer Preview. If you found one that works for the consumer, post it please!

OOOOOHHH! That ^^^^^^^^^^^^ was a joke! LOL.

EDIT: CRAP! I thought the title said "intuitive" and not "unintuitive"

I'm also playing with Win 8 and I have to say the metro IU is by far the worst thing windows has done. Right up there with Vista and Win ME. WTF were they thinking? Oh yeah, I know what they were thinking: "Apple is bringing components of the mobile OS to the desktop so, as is our tradition we must copy them to stay current" And as is tradition they screwed it up badly.

Yup, I used that and found good ole Win 7 under that stupid metro IU.

Not just elderly dads. I find Windows 8 difficult to use, and I'm a computer tech who regularly tries out different operating systems for fun. I'm sure if I used it for daily tasks I would get the hang of it, but it does feel unnecessarily difficult for no reason. The two interfaces seem badly smashed together, like a Nutella and olive sandwich.

Typical Microsoft. Have to reg hack the OS to make it actually usable. There was no reason for this either. Windows 7 is the most solid OS since XP. Change for the sake of change. How about giving me another two service packs to Win 7 and let me use if for 2-3 more years instead of trying to turn out a half baked OS, with completely unnecessary and useless features. This is a bigger fail than unity for Ubuntu.

I was excited to see that Microsoft finally has native PDF support but guess what, when you open up a PDF you go to the Romper Room Metro full screen GUI, whoopeee.

I have no problem with the 2 GUIs, but give users the choice which one they want to use. I thought the Windows slogan was life without walls.

Microsoft's so desperate to catch up to Apple in the mobile space that they're using their monopoly to try & force this Metro garbage on everybody. What a mess.

Am I the only one who saw this coming? Look at the history of Microsoft Operating systems

Windows 98 - For it's time, it was good
The OS that shall not be named - Horrid
Windows XP - Good
Windows Vista - Horrid
Windows 7 - Good
Windows 8 - Horrid
Windows ??? - Good??

The problem is that they rush to much. I think we can all admit that Vista was essentially a half finished version of 7. This new OS it just a half finished version of whatever is next.

Err... Pretty much though they had some mixing and matching of families...

Win 95 Good
Win 95 OSR2 Better
Win 98 Good
Win 98 SE Better
Win 2000 Good
Win ME Horrid (only because 2000 made it look bad)
Win XP Better (than 2000)
Vista Horrid (Clean install SP2 ==> Good)
Win 7 Beta Good
Win 7 RC Good
Windows 7 Better
Windows 8 Dev Preview Horrid
Windows 8 Consumer Preview Horrid
Windows 8 RTM Horrid ???
Windows 9 Good ???

Microsoft should really drop the 32 Bit Version of Windows 8. They don't have a 32-bit Version of Server 2008 R2, so why have a 32 bit Version of Windows 8?

My problem with Windows 8 is there no start menu by default. There are already third party apps, which I've yet to try, which gives you the start menu, but I shouldn't have use them. My other problem is that it asks me to sign in using my Live ID. Okay, there are probably ways round it that I might have missed, but I couldn't see anything.

Metro works on the mobile platform and kinda works on the Xbox 360 but on the PC, it just doesn't. It doesn't feel natural enough.

Will I upgrade to Windows 8? No and tbh I can see Windows 7 becoming to next XP for several years.

I am not interested in Windows 8 either. It sucks to make you use a Live ID... What about people without the Internet?

Also that new Metro thing doesn't belong on a desktop computer... maybe it is okay on a tablet.

It is awkward to shutdown having to press like Winkey + i, and the new Start Menu stinks via Metro. It also sucks when you play a movie on the Desktop and it takes you to Metro to start Metro Media Player or whatever that is... The Windows Media Player is already much, much better...

Finally, drivers don't work well at all.

Funny thing is I had a 17-20 page rant over here with several people arguing me down how good Vista was when it first came out. It was my fault they said. Where are those people now?

Good observation, I have to agree with most of it. They even admitted that Vista was basically just a stepping stone to 7. I imagine they are treating 8 the same way.

I think there will still be a small demand for 32 bit, at least till 9 comes out. There are still small nextbooks and probably tablets that will need to run in 32bit. Also, there will always be cheap computers for sale with very low specs utilizing the 32bit architecture. Celeron and Sempron come to mind.

I think Vista is pretty darn good to be honest NOW! It is like that car that was a lemon and after taking it back to the dealer 100 times they fixed all the recalls and warranty issues.

Basically, they (Microsoft) back-ported the Windows 7 stuff somewhat to Vista. At least many of the updates etc. The drivers were the issue when it first came out. I tried to run it on an AMD Athlon 64 with NForce Chipset an Nvidia Card, and it was HELL. The development machines were Intel with Intel Chip-sets and ATI Graphics... It probably ran fine on those.

It was probably 1 year + for Stable Nvidia Graphics Drivers! It was SO bad clicking the Start Button would paint the Start Menu in the wrong place. The graphics driver would crash with balloon pop-ups... It would BSOD randomly, and it could NOT go to sleep and wake-up!

I could NOT get drivers for my printer or scanner either.

^^^^^^^^^^^ EVERYTHING ABOVE...... FIXED.

Windows Vista is 95% as Stable & Reliable as Windows 7 if not more. It works with MOST Windows 7 drivers just like 7 works with Vista drivers...

Windows Vista is VASTLY SUPERIOR to Windows XP in deployment, WIM imaging, etc. It is VASTLY SUPERIOR to in a Domain to Windows XP... It supports Group Policy Preferences, Shadow Copies, etc... Right out of the Box.

Trust me... Windows Vista vastly outclasses XP in every measurable way from my perspective as a Network Administrator.

Nah, Vista is still crap. Any customer that brings me a vista box gets upgraded to 7.

Vista is crap, but Windows 7 is the best piece of crap that Microsoft has ever created. With that being said. Vista works well enough to do just about everything that most people want. Unless people actually need Windows 7, I am not going to waste their money on upgrading them.

My other problem is that it asks me to sign in using my Live ID.

Yeah I don't care for that either, it's rather annoying.

But as far as the start menu, it appears I'm in the minority. I actually like the new menu (right click in the corner). Though I'm not sure why MS thinks it's a good idea to give one click access to tools that the average user could use to really screw up their computer; ie. disk management and such.
