Windows 8 Anyone?

I haven't yet found a way to do that with a mouse...... Alt+F4 works fine though...

You can close an app with a mouse. You have to click and drag from the top of the screen. As you continue, the cursor changes and then you can just close the app. Try that

But I still do not think that it very intuitive. But that is how you do it.

Yes it is supposed to be a swipe down gesture. Lots of the gestures can be done with a mouse but it isn't very intuitive. Nor is it obvious what to do even on a full tablet. I find the lack of visual cues to be a major design flaw.

I think the lack of visual clues, is to do with maximising screen room on tablets. Apparently many trackpads are going to be able to duplicate those gestures you can do using touch. However I think that is only going to be on new laptops since not many Windows 7 laptops have multi-touch trackpads with edge detection. I have even tried Window 8 on a mac with a multi-touch trackpad, but the windows 8 edge gestures don't actually work. Maybe later if there are drivers.

Windows 98 > Windows Millenium

Windows 7 > Windows 8

Notice a trend here?

I would say that is not really true.

Windows ME was basically Windows 98 with support for Memory Sticks... it was in no way worse than Windows 98 SE in my opinion... Both suck equally well and were VASTLY inferior to Windows 2000, which was released prior to ME and probably the first relatively stable version of Windows that is usable.

Windows Vista IS vastly superior to Windows XP at this point though when it was first released it was pure garbage, and I still don't really like the UI much having to turn most of it off.

Windows 8... it is still too soon for me to come up with an opinion, but I am not a fan of the new start Metro UI thing. It sucks that they removed Gadgets too because I have one (1) third-party gadget I like. Lastly, removing Aero Peak was a very bad move to which Microsoft said is to conserve batter life on Surface and other portable devices because it sucks up batter power and takes a lot of rendering power.... To me this makes no sense at all. I mean aren't graphics cards like 30x better than they were when Vista's Aero first came out? Couldn't the code be smoothed over to not suck up resources? How much processing power can it really take to draw glass or brushed metal anyway vs. playing some crazy 3D game using DirectX. My point is that the new UI is ugly.

To some extent I agree with you. I kind of liked the aero theme and glass looks. But I think another reason they removed it was to attempt to unify the modern ui with the the desktop interface.
In relation to aero peak, some of its features still remain, but it is disabled by default. If you right click on the taskbar on the desktop and go to taskbar properties, you can check a textbox to use aero peak.
