Not apparent how to close apps.
I haven't yet found a way to do that with a mouse...... Alt+F4 works fine though...

You can close an app with a mouse. You have to click and drag from the top of the screen. As you continue, the cursor changes and then you can just close the app. Try that
But I still do not think that it very intuitive. But that is how you do it.
Yes it is supposed to be a swipe down gesture. Lots of the gestures can be done with a mouse but it isn't very intuitive. Nor is it obvious what to do even on a full tablet. I find the lack of visual cues to be a major design flaw.
Windows 98 > Windows Millenium
Windows XP > Windows Vista
Windows 7 > Windows 8
Notice a trend here?
Lastly, removing Aero Peak was a very bad move to which Microsoft said is to conserve batter life on Surface and other portable devices because it sucks up batter power and takes a lot of rendering power.... To me this makes no sense at all. I mean aren't graphics cards like 30x better than they were when Vista's Aero first came out? Couldn't the code be smoothed over to not suck up resources? How much processing power can it really take to draw glass or brushed metal anyway vs. playing some crazy 3D game using DirectX. My point is that the new UI is ugly.
And the long struggle with Win 8 begins. I'll not participate in this one.
