Apple's been using sandboxing pretty much since the beginning of iOS. It's worked quite well as far as I know. And their App Store QC seems to work quite well in terms of approving apps that do not have surprises.

Of course the big problem is the M$ ecosystem is many times larger. I wonder how much money they are willing to plow into this effort if they automatically whitelist their App Store offerings.

Their cost (I would imagine) would be considerable. Having to vet every application would be a huge undertaking, then continually checking the whitelisted apps.

They aren't going to do that, it will be some lame sonar like system where it does basic checks like app popularity, is it digitally signed? etc I havent been keeping up with the newest ransomware but aren't there some that can load before windows anyway?

Personally, I don't think it will really matter what they do. Malware/Ransomware authors will find a way just like they always have.
