Windows 10 strikes again

I just updated my home computer to Windows 10 1703, and the first thing I noticed was no more network connectivity.

It turns out it decided to disable Hyper-V, and thus get rid of my virtual adapter and thus nothing was checked for my ethernet adapter. Re-setting Hyper-V back up now and will see if it will automatically reload anything (I kind of doubt it)

But yeah, M$'s propensity for changing settings with every update is really starting to be a problem.

These aren't updates. They are complete Windows re-installations. What we used to call "over-the-tops". Many customizations are lost during these installs.

You do know there's a reason they do this, right?
It's to stop people from disabling their spyware.. um..er... Telemetry data collectors... um...tracking software...
They just reverse any changes with each new iteration (or over-the-top install if you like.)

Because I was going away for the weekend, and I knew I wanted to use the computer the next week, so I figured I might as well turn it on (I don't use this computer often) and I figured might as well have Windows update for once instead having to disable updates in order to use it, so I turned it on and left for the weekend, hoping that I could rely on Microsoft just to do their thing and take care of their part, i.e. I was trying to play the part of a user, instead of a tech.

I'm really wishing for an old version of Windows 10 from early 2016 that I could neuter so it won't receive any updates. Back then it wasn't affected by the SLOOOOOOOOOOW HDD problem, and things just seemed much smoother overall.

Well, Windows 10 1511 can still be downloaded and installed. shutup 10 from O&O also still exists.

I use Shutup 10 from O&O I belive it helps out. After every big release you wanna run it again just in case things have changed.
