Window 7 already bigger than Snow Leopard and Linux combined

It's only been a couple of weeks since Windows 7 was released, but Microsoft's new OS has already captured a larger percentage of the market than Apple's OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and Linux (yes, all of Linux). This doesn't come as a huge surprise, considering how many Windows users were clamoring for Win7 after the flop that is Vista.

VIVA LA REVOLUTION!

Only had 1 Win7 laptop come through the shop so far and it was just for a RAM upgrade. Good thing the average user is still beta, so we'll still have lots of business... :D

Steve Jobs and Linus Torvalds just died a little inside.

Good job Steve Ballmer! Keep up the Microsoft Tick-Tock pattern! (Flop - Top)

Notice a pattern...

Windows OS
  • :( - Windows ME
  • :) - Windows XP
  • :( - Windows Vista
  • :) - Windows 7

Direct X
  • :( - DirectX 6
  • :) - DirectX 7
  • :( - DirectX 8
  • :) - DirectX 9
  • :( - DirectX 10
  • - DirectX 11

Xbox
  • :( - XBox
  • :) - XBox 360

Windows 8, DirectX 12 and XBox 3 will be bad :(

That's funny it just made my morning. You are correct they got one bad and one good pattern going on.

Vista was f in' great, just ask most people that were on this forum 6 months ago. It was all bad hardware and other companies faults for the drivers and if you ever had a Vista problem it was some how your fault. Nothing at all wrong with Vista, IT WAS THE PERFECT OS DAMMIT!!!

I think its so funny that some of the same people who told me just a while ago how great Vista was can't wait to get their hands on 7. Vista was garbage up until SP3, um I mean Windows 7.

Thats because Microsoft holds over 90% of the market share, not because its the better OS.

Totally agree with you on all accounts.
Expectantly SP3, Windows 7 is nothing else then a update and another face lift, mostly "borrowed" ideas from other OSes.

Amazing how people are.

What was so wrong with Vista anyway? I use it on both my systems and its very fast and reliable.

I also get far fewer virus call outs for Vista machines than XP.

The worst version of windows I have used is Windows 3.0 and Windows ME. Windows 3.0 just dated quickly and soon moved to Windows 3.11 which was brilliant. Windows 95 seemed like a major major step forward even though the OS was flawed (originaly no USB support etc).

I think it is very unfair to say Vista was a flop compared to say ME.

If 7 is a service pack then Snow Leopard is a bug fix. plain and simple. It's like saying Windows XP is a ME service pack, or Windows 98 is a Windows 95 Service pack...also why should one OS have something that another doesn't? If that's where the market moves then so be it. Why stay behind when you can at least catch up? I'm all for innovation but nothing was "borrowed". If that's the case then car manufacturers just "borrow" body styles and features.

I found nothing wrong with Vista in my opinion, but the market seems to hate it so it's considered a flop.

+1...Honestly what were you all expecting with Windows 7? It's an improvement over Vista as like Joe said XP was over ME and same goes with Snow Leopard. The whole point of a new operating system is to improve over the last one, right?

+1 on that. Vista is more resistant to viruses but when you get an infected one it is usually more severe than XP. I don't know if that has to do with the protected kernel thing or UAC.

Aww, no snappy comeback :( (I kid)

I just get a little bugged out when people call Windows 7 a service pack. To put it in better terms, it's an Apple style service pack in which it's advertised as a new OS. (Meaning Snow Leopard is Mac OSX SP6, right?)

Win7 SP to Vista, blah blah, I see conflicting information saying that Win7 would use MinWin and have an all new kernel and other articles saying it is redesigned and optimized Vista kernel, if there is a solid and accurate answer then we have the truth on which it really is, I think it is great and I think Vista should be what we have with Win7 now...really all I care about in the end is how well it works i guess. :)

This coming from someone who wants to "share" someone else's logo for their business

Tweak has it down right. The only thing that matters is that if it works. Although I would like to add that it works and that the general public likes it. For example- Butterscotch is a fantastic ice cream flavor, but isn't very popular.

Uhh, might want to change your post >.> them's fightin' woyds.
Different context all together anyway. He's small time. Microsoft's a major worldwide corporation.

Not to mention that if Microsoft doesn't implement "other os' features" that become popular then they will lose their own popularity. So "borrowing" a feature is the wrong term. It's more like "following the customer"

You could call both Windows 7 and Snow Leopard service packs if it makes you feel good. I wont argue the point. I will say this: Snow Leopard has worked great for me and for most of the Mac users I know, while Vista did not. Windows 7 made Vista work like it should have in 2007 and Snow Leopard just streamlined Leopard and made it a little better.

I reckon MS made Vista 'not great' (that's the nicest phrasing I could think of) on purpose, so that EVERYONE would buy Windows 7 as to not have either slow vista or an soon to be outdated xp

Why would any company in their right mind sabotage their own product? I can't imagine Ford making their 2011 F-150 horrible so their 2012 F-150 would sell better.

The problem with Vista was that Microsoft waited too long to release it. The reason for that was because they kept creating it from scratch I think 3 times. (Longhorn > ??? > Vista). It was originally supposed to come out 3 years after XP- not 7 or 8.
