Win 10 Media Creation Tool Issue?

Ok, is it just me or is anyone else have issues with a newer version of the Win 10 Media creation Tool?
It won't recognize USB Drives.
SanDisk, Transcend, PNY, Kingston.
Fat 32, NTFS
Different systems, different downloads
Using an old version from June, works every time on all the above drives.
Any ideas, beside keep using the old version.
Lots of hits on "google", but no to no avail.

Had this problem in our workshop too. Tried a couple of different flash drives without success, then tried a different computer and it worked fine. Didn't figure out why.

Yes, I've seen this as well. Tried it from one of my Win7 computers, didn't recognize any flash drive. Ran it from my Win8 Bench machine and it recognized every drive I tried. Probably something to do with the USB drivers...

Come to think of it, our main workbench PC is Win7 and had the issue with the creation tool. I think we ended up using a Win10 computer and it worked.

Maybe it's something to do with Win7...

I updated mine last week on my main PC which is Windows 7 Pro. No issues there.

That and several other methods of using .iso all seem to work fine. It's just strange that Microsoft's "official" way of creating a USB has so many issues. What is really weird, is the old version from June, seems to work fine, every time, every machine, every thumbdrive. Download a fresh copy......no go. Typical Microsoft crap, maybe it's not so weird after all...........LOL!
Just checking to see if it was just me missing something stupid....I seem to be doing that more often as I get older......LOL!

Dont use the USB3 port or even a USB3 flash drive. Use USB2 and it will work.

Its better to just download the ISO and use Rufus to create the USB in my opinion. I have never had an issue doing it that way. Using the MCT I have had an issue a couple of times.

On a win 10 machine I just mount the ISO and copy and paste the contents to the USB. It will be bootable. No need for rufus.

You say it will be bootable, but is it? Have you actually booted off install media created this way?

It might be bootable if that USB drive was previously made bootable. On a new drive it won't be bootable unless specifically made bootable.

The new version of Media Creation Tool will not recognize USB 2.0, 3.0 Drives, Ports or any combination of.
Currently using an older version works on all them, as does making .iso and using another program.
I usually try to stick to USB 2.0 ports and drives for these things.

@Porthos I tried that, and while it works for UEFI, it does not for Legacy. At least not in the 3 machines I tried it on.

I have every version of Windows on USB drives and made them all using Rufus a long time ago.

I have not made one since before the AU. It used to work on legacy boot before then. On the other hand all of my clean installs are done by updated images I make in Hyper V.
