Which laptop do you use for work?

I use whatever I have at hand...

When I'm going on-site I take my Acer Aspire One 722. It's compact enough to fit inside my bag of goodies, but powerful enough to do everything I need... except read/write discs. Had to get an external USB-powered DVD-RW for that.

Right now I'm using an Acer Aspire 5535 that I like to use when I'm at home because of it's full-size... one of a few donations from clients. This client brought in 2 laptops and had me pull the drive from this one to fix another. New LCD and HDD later and I've got myself a working laptop. I've got an HP dv5 that I acquired the same way... unfortunately it's in pieces in a box, LOL.

Personally I've got an old acer aspire 5520. Customer had it and just wanted the data. She brought it in with a cracked screen and had already bought a new one at best buy, didnt care what I did with it.

I actually needed a laptop and had an old dell on hand with a good screen but motherboard was shot. Eyeballed it and the screen was close enough I fit the dell screen into the acer. Actually had to swap the bezels around the panels themselves, but upgraded from 1 gb of ram to 4, bigger hard drive and works great. Got an Athlon dual core in it. Has nvidia graphics that seemed to have heat issues, but repasted the gpu and it seems to work better now. For free I could not argue.

I have a Toshiba Satellite ready to go with me every time I'm on the road.
Excellent battery life, and it's packed with goodies.
It also features a multi OS boot sequence which can be very helpful

I have been thinking about upgrading to SSHD as well. I know they are immune to movement damage, but how to they effect battery life? I did some searching and the results are that they only barely give better battery time and it really depends on the model. Anyone have any personal experience? Also a place to get a 128Gb or larger for decent price would be good haha.

I have a crucial m4 in my v131. The thing already got 8 to 9 hours, so I didn't notice any difference. It also has 16 GB ram. I absolutely do not store any important data on it.

Currently using an Apple Macbook (Mid 2010) it kind of ties in as my personal laptop. I use my bench rig for most things anyway but I need to get a laptop for work.
I'm thinking about a Lenovo.

I use a Thinkpad T61. Used to have an SSD in it, then I decided to use the SDD elsewhere. The laptop is pretty old, but its a reliable beast. Can leave it with confidence running overnight or several days if needed.

I also have a custom built desktop running linux that I use for hard drive testing, data recovery, and other various tasks.

I am to the point where hardware doesn't impress me much. I spend so much time using other peoples computers that they all seem the same.

In my car I carry an old Acer netbook, a black macbook with Win 7 in a VM and an iPad. I take whichever meets the need of the moment.

I refurbished myself a Macbook Pro 13-inch (Mid 2009) 2.26Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo/8GB 1333 MHz DDR3 / 500GB HDD 2 partitions, with one side running 10.6.8 and the other running 10.8 a few months ago.

Don't usually quote myself, but this is for comparisons sake. I just bought a Macbook Pro (15-inch Mid 2009) 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo/8GB 1333MHz DDR3 / 500GB HDD the other day.

Just quoting myself again to see how often I switch machines. Fun keeping this thread going just to see our patterns for personal rigs.

Just picked up a current model Macbook Pro (15-inch Mid 2012) 2.6GHz Intel Core i7 (Quad Core) / 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 (soon to be 16GB) / 750GB HDD with over 2 years of Applecare left. Machine is a little rough, but just needs some TLC which I've been giving it. Definitely worth more than what I paid for it. This one has the higher end graphics (NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB VRAM) like my last one did (NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512MB VRAM).

I've been beating myself up all week about putting my Macbook Pro (15-inch Mid 2009) up for sale (especially since the thing is new condition with all the parts I got for it), but finally decided I'll sell the unibody Macbook (13-inch late 2008) my significant other is currently using and hand this over to her and just both of us share this machine at home. Also, be a great backup for me.

Currently Running a Dell N7010 with 8 GB and a 600GB HDD. I5 processor loaded with Windows 8.

Windows 8 lets me use Virtual Manager for testing, and is not prone to some basic viruses like the FBI Virus. It just cannot start up(the newer FBI Virus can).

I suggest having speed balanced with a large(either external or internal) HDD for data backups, Testing, and data recovery/Images. Other than that any laptop will do as long as its not holding you back.

I use a Dell Latitude 10. Technically not a laptop, but with a full version of Windows and a full size USB port, it might as well be. It's small enough to carry around everywhere I go, but big enough to give presentations in one on one meetings.
