I recently installed a new wired network for an existing managed services client. It consisted of 10 jacks, patch panel, switch, and each run between 30-60 feet. All tested and confirmed working. Each run was done in a drop ceiling and then down the drywall. I didn't hit any problems that made anything extremely difficult, but the wire pulling took time.

I spent about 13-15 hours total.

This isn't normally something I do, but the client wanted me to handle it because the electrician didn't want to get involved and have me say there was an issue later on.

Because its not something I do regularly I wanted to check with you guys to see if the time spent sounded reasonable and if I should just charge my normal hourly rate. What do you think is a reasonable labor charge for this job?

Just charge whatever you agreed upon before doing the job.:D

You didn't do the work and not agree to a price first did you?

We charge $150 per drop and $75 for each additional cable being pulled with another to the same location. Charge includes jacks, boxes, plates, termination at both ends, labeling and testing. So if all your drops were to separate locations, our charge would be $1500 plus the cost of the rack, patch panel and switch. That gives you a per hour charge of $100+, which for us would be pretty good.

Really!! You did the job and didn't discuss the rate!! Yikes!!! My prices are in line with "uprighttech" right about $100/ hour but do break it down as charge per drop and the other essentials.

I would highly suggest you get a price up front prior to starting the job and get it in writing with both of you signing the contract......

As long as it's the same MDF/IDF, I charged $200 for the first drop, $250 total for Dual Drop and $350 Total for Quad Drop using CAT5e. CAT6 would cost more. This includes backboard if necessary, patch panel, cable management, documentation and printed test result.
