What Antivirus and Firewall Do You Use On YOUR Machine

ESET NOD32 or MSE + Windows Firewall. Google Chrome with Adblock and WOT. Also layered with registry inoculation via SpywareBlaster... and frequently-updated vulnerable plugins. And that's it.

And this is actually my choice for my customers as well. I rarely see people again with infections because of my approach.

On my work PC's I use free Avast. On my home PC I use ESET Smart Security. Never had any issues.

I still don't get why it is that Virii are still even an issue ... need to use a computer for browsing? Linux. Windows is obsolete there. Need to use a computer for archaic business programs? Don't connect it to the internet, if you don't have to. Whitelist the servers you -must- access, if you do have to.

Simple. No such thing as a fool-proof antivirus, and an antivirus being even necessary is a symptom of a broken OS.

Let's not get into that discussion again eh?! :)

I think all that could be said on it was said on it last time.

I'm still completely blown away by the number of techs still using AV on their personal machines.

I wouldn't use a AV solution myself, but I recommend one to my clients on their computers. So I use what I install on my clients computers. Bottom line... the only way to become knowledgeable expert on the product is to use it myself. That way I can support my clients. That way if they call and have questions, then I have some clue what they are talking about.

'cos we're resellers of a couple of AV's we have to use them all in-house :o but we run two totally seperate networks in our building, one in the workshop for client pc's sitting behind an untangle box & one in the admin floor for our in-house pc's sitting behind a sonicwall so we don't run anything on the in-house ones.

I used to install Avira everytime I re-format my computer, got tired of the ads and it always flushing my activation software (hey talking about personal computer, never business), so I use none. Once in a month I install Malawarebyte and launch it with R.Kill (great program if you don't know it). Never got anything wrong in the last six months.

avira free and zone alarm free. once a month a scan with superantispyware. I thibk it is good to use them just for the fact that you know how to use them for clients!
