Yes, I know this Question has been asked before...
As "New and Improved" Security Software comes out constantly it is a topic that should be kept current.

So, What Firewall and Antivirus Software do You Use?

I take Norton off my list - right away, my historical experience with it has been that it completely mucks up what ever its on. (Always has since '82) Besides - Remember "Magic Lantern"? - So they can't be trusted.

I take McAfee off my list as well, with similar experiences. (I could be mistaken, but aren't they the ones who wright spyware for the Feds?)

Windows Firewall is off my list, simply because of the MS "sell it Now - Fix it later" history. I'm not a bug fan of M$ anyway and I sure don't trust them to guard my system(s). Also worth a mention is that since the majority of users Do In fact rely on it - it would be the one firewall most "Black hats" would spend the most time trying to bypass.

I'm using Antivir and comodo, and although I can't complain about them I am always scouting around for better.

Suggestions?

I I have MS Security Essentials on one of my work PCs... I always use the built-in Windows firewall combined with a good hardware firewall. No A/V on home PCs, and use DDWRT currently, but I used to run a separate Untangle box when I wasn't concerned with power usage lol...

EDIT: Not suggesting anyone should rely on Windows firewall, MS Security Essentials, or whatever. It's just my current setup. I'm looking to maybe swap out MSSE for a new A/V on that work PC, for scanning slaved HDDs and such. Currently I also use Kaspersky but not so much lately. Been looking into Vba32 but doesn't run on that pc (Win7 x64)... I prefer something with a command line scanner or that can be easily automated...

So I'm looking for suggestions as well...

home PC's all have MSE, windows firewall and Hardware firewall (sonicwall)

Except for one laptop all the business PC's are linux, no AV. Business laptop MSE.

I also use OpenDNS as an extra layer.

Everyone one uses Chrome or Firefox with adblock plus.

no bugs in over 4 years.

Norton Internet Security 2011. I sell it to clients so I eat my own dog food. Runs light, takes care of itself for updating and scanning, and haven't had any problems.

If you haven't tried it in the last two years, I'd give the 30 day trial a shot.

On my wifes computer, I use avast free. My computer has none but runs recursive images (gotta love wim imaging!) to whs 2011. For firewall I use ddwrt on a netgear something or other (forgot the model number)

I was running KIS 2011, but am now running KIS 2012 since there was a free upgrade. Like Martyn, I have yet to come accross a PC with KIS and virus.

My main computer is running linux, so no antivirus software, my windows PC's @ work have microsoft security essentials on them, and we offer Kaspersky or Norton to clients (9/10 go kaspersky)

On my older/slower computers I use Avast and Comodo firewall.

On main computer I use KIS 2012 - I too have never seen an active virus on a machine with (an up to date version of ) KIS on.

But the best protection of all is safe searching...

For both the office PCs and my family's PCs (running a combination of Win XP and Win 7): Windows firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials. A standard NAT-type router provides a hardware firewall.

Most important, of course, is smart surfing and common sense! :)

Most of my systems have Comodo Internet Security; If not then they have Sandboxie. Also I use what I install on my clients computers; unless of course I need a very light AntiVirus then I use MSE.

sandboxie and mse
no issues at all

starting to resell sandboxie and everyone so far has been very pleased with it as well.
