i offer 24/7 service, once in a while I'll get an emergency call. Tonight at midnight a guy calls me up and asks about a virus removal, I first tell him my rate and ask him where he lives, he lives in a part of the city that I normally wouldn't even visit during the day let alone at night so he offered to come to me. I started asking him what his computer is doing that leads him to believe he has a virus and his reply was "I don't really have a virus, I was watching pornography on my computer when my wife walked in, excuse me, my fiancée walked in and caught me, she got ******(upset), I told her it was a virus and she doesn't believe me so I figured i could pay you to say you removed a virus from my computer so she will calm down" he then asked me if I could give him a discount since I don't really need to remove a virus. I told him that at this hour I don't do discounts, and that if he's watching pornography on his computer he probably has malware on it anyways, he then says never mind his fiancée fell asleep and it should be ok in the morning.

I'm actually glad he backed off, it just didn't sound right to me and it would have probably been one of those things that I'd later think that I should have turned away.

I wouldn't have answered or responded to a call at that time - but you do offer a 24 hr service- fk that, you offer the service expect the weirdos. It must have been something nasty for a person to contact you at that time.

My rates double after hours. No virus needs to be removed after hours.

Unless your term paper is due in the morning :)

I had this happen years ago where someone hunted me down through a daisy chain of about 5 friends because her term paper was due first thing in the morning and during the day her boyfriend was using her laptop. She came home, wanted to proof her term paper one last time before bed and found the DOJ screen. Because she was a poor College kid I did it for free; 50 mile round trip, opened the shop at 10pm on a Sunday night and spent 30 minutes cleaning it up. I'm a softy when it comes to broke College kids as I was one once, a long time ago. There are a few exceptions to why a virus needs cleaned late at night, very few though.

Yeah I wouldn't be picking up the phone at that time. Offering 24 hour service will get you those calls from time to time though.

Porn is our friend. I would have booked that job for sure, easy cash.
I really miss the FBI virus.

I miss the expressions on customer's faces with the FBI virus. Some would come in white as a ghost or actually sweating :D

I actually heard of people trowing off their computers because of that virus! I once had a call from a client to asking me to very urgently remove that virus before his wife returns home! :D

Which I always found funny. People really are ignorant of how the law works. If they really suspected you of having child porn on your system they wouldn't lock it down with some program on the screen. That is like booting a car that is illegally parked. They kick your door in with a battering ram, guns drawn waving a search warrant.

Didn't a kid commit suicide over that somewhere? I still get the odd one in now and again, although here in the UK it can be the Metropolitan Police :)

I remember a story or two where someone got that virus and turned themselves in to the police for possession of child pornography. It truly was a great virus.

Were I live, They wait until your in your car and they stake out your residence so that there is no were to drive to when you see them coming. Then they drive home and all cop cars block them in. Then ask their name and cuff them immediately. Then they are whisked into a plain jane car and off the jail. A group of police will stay behind to gather the evidence from the house. Happened to a a neighbor of mine. He got 30 years. Their house eventually sold and was gutted and rebuilt. Then sold to a pretty darn cool new neighbor. So, Everything worked out in the end. :)
