Hi all,

I am throwing in the towel on google adwords / bing. I tried and tried to rework the campaigns, spent lots of money every month and the return has pretty been zero. I even signed up for an Instapages account to have better landing pages and no change at all, lots of money spent with no leads.

My first question is, has anyone purchased a SEO service? There is a company who's newsletter I get and the value package is a guaranteed first page ranking for 10 to 15 keywords for $3500. Is this worth it? My thing is when google changes their calculations those first page rankings go away. Any thoughts?

The other thing is my website is in Joomla and has been for a while. I had it redesigned about a year ago but I know next to nothing about website changes so about the only thing I can do is update the content of the pages but that's about it. Would anyone recommend I go to a wordpress website? I optimized my joomla site as best I could for SEO.

Lastly, I have a blog with hundreds of blogs that get a bunch of hits and the blog is a joomla plugin that I paid for. If I move to a wordpress website what can I do about my existing blog? I don't want to lose that content or the little traffic it brings.

Any ideas, advice would be appreciated. I'm trying hard to find new leads, constantly get frustrated but always opening to something new and maybe it will work. FYI I only market in New York City.

Steve

Be careful with seo companies most are simply snake oil salesmen who will use any quick blackhat method to get the quick rank. Unfortunately the methods they use are temporary and your site will quickly fall down the rankings or even worse banned from google. That's not to say there isn't any good ones out there but they quite rightly cost.

As for joomla or WordPress aslong as the content is good quality you will get the rankings your site deserves (think of the big websites most don't use either and are ranked above you).

I feel your pain trying to get decent rankings in large city but just keep plugging away putting decent content on the site and eventually you will get steady rankings.

Due to the constant refreshes and algorithm updates, Google has made SEO, especially local SEO a continuous up hill battle. We use to outsource to SEO consultants, but not anymore. Nowadays, most (not all) Google local searches for product and services return Google + listings. Google's new name for these listings are Google My Business listings. In 2015 I would focus my concern with having a 'desirable' Google My Business listing, versus doing battle with Google for search engine optimization.

I blog on a national level for work, so my blogs are the Google Gravy. I use Google ads $400 a month and the rest comes from my blogging, I have a wordpress site. About 70% of my work now is from Google or online searching. It can take awhile to get there without paying, but it works. Next bill period, I am taking down my ads and putting that money into more blogging. Paying an assistant this time to help out. I'd rather pay someone in house than Google right now.

As for your Joomla site, a tech who bought my SEO for Wordpress ebook said that it works in Joomla, so maybe if you take my methods and change up your blogging, might be helpful. You can check it out here. $15 worth a read. http://callthatgirl.biz/wordpress-seo-workbook/

You can hire Davena (ohio tech) here on TN if you want more support. She hired a blogger and content writer to help.

Well kudos to you for getting google ads to work for you, I almost fell off my chair when I saw my bing / adwords bill this month. I should be paying more attention to it but I have put in a lot of work into it and really refined and still get nothing. Maybe I just don't get it or the market is way too saturated in my area for it to work but at almost $20 a click it just doesn't work.

I'll check out your ebook, I was just doing some quick reading on SEO and learned that it's not really the CRM that matters it's all about the content.

Content is King! My website is very graphically boring, but just chocked full of love under the hood. (650 or so blogs)

As for Google ads...
I pay $3 a click or around there, so yeah $20 is way too much wow!! I don't mind the $3 per click, but the thing is...I thought my google ads were killing it, then I asked a few clients deeper questions and found out that my organic blogs are doing it, they said they avoid ads.

One thing I am doing is blogging as many fixes as I can. Here is an example...

Error
The drive that contains your data file is out of disk space (this is an Outlook error)

I created a blog with FIX in the title http://callthatgirl.biz/fix-the-drive-that-contains-your-data-file-is-out-of-disk-space/
And while I'm only on page 2, it might be helpful for Google Techs and end users that find my fix too technical and will call and hire me.

This is what I have been trying to do a few times a week.

While running the risk of going off course a bit for this thread, how do you guys find constant blog ideas? I try but sometimes I come up short and finding relevant things to write about.

Here is what I do. I do a lot of boring jobs, but each week I do a few good ones. Just think this "this job is worth a story" and tell the story, but be sure to add the google juice :) SEO words.

Good ones for me....

Either have good SEO potential (errors, or good keywords) Examples
Juicy one...http://callthatgirl.biz/how-to-install-palm-pilot-software-on-windows-7-and-hotsync/ (lots of stuff here!) I am on page 2
another one (page 3 but that's ok) http://callthatgirl.biz/outlook-express-transfer-to-outlook-in-windows-7-or-8/

Or have just an SEO back end purpose

Trying to get started with SEO for my site. Content is all done but my SEO skills suck!! I started blogging with that post on Windows 10 that you and I exchanged. My site is built on Wordpress technology so I am assuming it would work out just fine.

I gotta buy your book! lol

The book is a great guide to get you going, I think you will do well with it, just follow the instructions. Most of your keywords are in the book already! Ohio Tech did them :)

If you want to hire my brother, he is doing SEO now for techs...$100 for 10 blogs. Good deal!
