Website - I want opinions

Honestly, for now (until you hire someone to do it for you), I would not offer this as a service . . . for obvious reasons.

I guess i missed that.... yeah website design is something you don't learn over night I would definitely not offer this service unless you are sourcing this out to someone else. Professional services imho should never be offered if it is something your trying to learn on the fly especially something like web design, it could turn into a disaster for both parties involved...

There's a subtle but important distinction between being direct and being rude.

I know from some of the other critiques OP's requested on here that he's far from likely to break down in tears from what PCX had to say :)

No Offense Intended

There' a subtle but important distinction between an ass and a turd also.
I said "no offense" so I can say anything I want.

PCX quote
"As mentioned in the past, don't use dark backgrounds unless you know how to use the colors. Also, I highly suggest learning PHP and or using a Wordpress template. Finally, if you can't do graphics design, maybe you should hand that torch to someone else and concentrate on learning how to code . . . maybe you should just sub this out . . . webdesign in general just may not be your thing.

BTW, not trying to be rude by any means, just trying to be honest. I do not know how else to get the point across without beating around the bush and giving you advice that really will not help you in the long run."

The colors are not that bad, pcx use's dark colors and still manages to give his site that template look. His site has no creativity, it looks like every other template site

At the very least Roborob has a unique logo and the website is not hard on the eyes.

I could go on but I choose not.

haha i love this for some reason

but seriously the logo looks better with the white bg, and i mean if you had a transparent bg on the logo you might be able to pull of a darker bg.

Other than the nav buttons being off to the side like that I think it's a perfectly fine site, good as most and better then some. The side nav box thing though is just personal preference, it throws the page off center. Adding a hover style to the nav buttons would be good, they feel dead when you roll over them.

Template, template, template...the whole web is getting boring as hell. So many sites look so much alike these days (sigh).

Wow, men are so sensitive now a days . . . moving on though . . .

I am by no means a web designer. I know what I want my site to look like and I honestly cannot get it to look that way. This is why I do not offer it as a service and this is also why I am looking at getting a different template (you'd know that if you read any of my other threads). I also am one of those who does not know how to use or implement dark colors. So, the advice I gave him, is the advice I gave myself . . . and I didn't even cry about it . . . in fact, If I put something on the forum to be critiqued, I would hope to God I got some blunt honesty. Why the heck would I waste all my time just for people to worry about my feelings and not actually help me? This is the problem with critiquing. You guys are more concerned about how people FEEL rather than their success of accomplishing their goal and doing it well.

Anyways, as far as my site looking like everyone else's, yes it does. It has a header, a body, a side bar section and a footer . . . structure? Its kind of the reason why ultimately a car looks the same. At the same time, it also looks a lot better than most computer repair sites that I have seen, so regardless I have a leg up in my area. In any case, Rob has a great logo, as mentioned before, so why ruin it with a bad looking site?

Finally, I have to assume that everyone who cannot give Rob an honest critique either has bad taste or does not know how a site should look or the hates him. I personally gave him the advice that I did because its what he needs to hear.

You know why there are templates? Do you remember the 90s and the awful sites that were created? Shoot, even up until 5 years ago or so, a great majority of the sites (and most still are really) were horrible looking. Templates at least allow those who cannot code or design have something decent and professional to look at and present to their customers or subscribers. Who cares if they pretty much look the same. It adds structure and allows the user to know where to find the data they are looking for.

What about the left alignment in all 3 columns Rob?

Alignment is important. :)

You have a nicely aligned 3rd column and then the others ............

Regards,

There are very few here that will draw a great number of web hits. This site is for dorks wanting to start a computer repair business.

You can spend thousands of hours working on a website that gets a few hundred hits a month(crawlers). If your a small residential based company chances are your hits are from uncle Earl.

If you are attempting a national or global service you should spend alot of money and time on marketing. Otherwise build yourself a landing page with contact info.

Just one thing to add...

Where are you?
When I look at your logo I think Texas.
Your bio says raised in Tenn, Ky.
Your phone comes to Wintehaven FL...
Your Meta lists wintehaven, polk county, FL, etc.

But no place on your page do you mention where you are or what areas you service.

Where am I?

Winter Haven, Florida.

On the homepage it states i serve Polk county and the surrounding area.

I do see your point though and will be editing to say - We are located in Winter Haven, Florida and are proud to serve Polk County and the surrounding area.
