Web site redesign ideas

After having ignored it for too long, I'm looking at sacking my current hosting company and having my site redesigned. My list so far is short:

1. Make it mobile friendly
2. Add "Click to call" ability when viewing from a mobile device
3. Remove dates from blog posts - I'm bad at staying regular at this, and don't want the dates to underline this fact
4. Better SEO

Here's the link.

What other changes would you suggest? I'm using a designer, but want to give a good list of to-do items, not just a generic "make it better" instruction.

I get a small stream of business from the site, but I'd like to ramp that up if I can. My search ranking has fallen off because I haven't been active, so I know my marching orders there.

Thanks!

Mark

Incorporate functionality into the site.
Have it generate you leads and make sales.
Get indepth reporting with Google Analytics.

Setup Filesharing with your most important tools that you can download always. Nothing is more powerful then directing a client to your page, and having them download your utility (or someone elses. but check the EULA for said software)

Incorporate a blog or RSS feeds to help stay on top of the search engines (new content boosts placement)

Account management for customers. Invoices paid/unpaid, etc

Helpdesk ticket system (great to communicate to clients in a direct way. builds trust & sales)

Make the site DO something is what im trying to get at, rather then a fancy brochure.

Just my suggestions

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll take the general lack of comments from others as a sign the design isn't horrible. :)

We such a small operation - I'm not sure I'm ready to have a ticketing system online, but I'll definitely take a look at it. Thanks!

My first impression is that it's an attractive design but too bare and dominated by the slider.

Then it seems it doesn't have much content in the front page other than those 3 boxes which doesn't actually seem to mirror your main services which is odd. Not sure why you'd use a prime area of the front page to feature hints and tips.

The end result is: I don't know what you actually do unless I'm prepared to sit through your slide show (which I'm not and nor is anyone else in a hurry looking at several sites to see who to call): https://yoast.com/opinion-on-sliders/

I don't know if DBA is correct about RSS feeds boosting SEO, but gut reaction is that they don't since google is interested in relevant, original content and that content is not original and links back to someone else. I bet it helps them and not you but I'm not an expert.

So I'd have the service boxes telling people what your serices are, move the testimonials and tips below that, have some actual word content for google and people to read and work out what you do, mention the areas you cover for peope and SEO, think about the slider - some good things on it but do they need to be on a slider or would, for instance, your impressive angies list rating. be better as a permanent feature?

If you fancy returning the favor and being brutally honest about my new site in this threat: http://www.technibble.com/forums/showthread.php?p=462703#post462703 I'd sure appreciate it.

yay, somebody who agrees with me! makes me seasick, makes me frustrated cos it whizzes by too fast to take it in. takes up a sizeable chunk of the screen with no obvious benefit, forces me to scroll to look for information

Generally speaking, I like it, but it looks a bit spare for a site that's hopefully going to drive sales. There's no call to action. Every page needs your contact info and a call to action. "Call to connect with our experts" or whatever, it doesn't need to be cheesy. People who are looking for help for their home computer are feeling insecure and they would like a bit more info on the landing page is my feeling. "You've come to the right place. Click here to select our services for your home computer maintenance and repair," and so on. Are you using Wordpress? It's great for SEO and with plugins you can add just about any functionality. And yes, you can configure permalinks. I don't think people care though about the date of a post. They just care whether it's useful.
