Virus Damage Repair question.

I got a virus the other day, and I started to run other diagnostic to see if there was anything else wrong with MY computer.

I am new to the computer repair business and I do not have very much knowledge dealing with viruses.

I was going to run trend micro's House Call-online virus scanner, however I was unable to access it. A java script error came up saying it was not activated, I was told to go into Internet Options to the secuirty tab and turn it on. However, there was a message saying that only the administrator could make that change. I am the administrator and I did not set any passwords on the machine for the user accounts. I have no way to make the changes necessary to fix this problem and finish the other scans and diagnostics.

Does anyone have any tips, advise, or solutions to help me fix this problem.

Don't you have a scanner already installed? Online virus scanners suck. Go download AVG, Avast or another free anti-virus scanner.

get your antivirus from another computer and transport it with a flash drive or something. Sounds like the virus has taken over. You are going to run into viruses a lot so you better get use to them and take advantage of this situation to test out some products you can use for your customers.

I Do, I use Avg. But I use the online scanners (Trend Micro-House Call) as a back-up scan.

Did you get a work around for this? If not try booting in safe mode by restarting the computer and taping the F8 key. Choose safe mode with networking. Login as the administrator to see if you can correct the issue there.

If you don't know how to remove viruses manually (the best and fastest way) then next best way is to remove the HDD and slave it up to another uninfected machine and scan the drive with AVG & Spybot. Kaspersky's online scanner is also very good. Whether you use an online scanner or not make mental notes of the virus locations. Those are Cliff's Notes for the future

Sounds like the virus has done some damage so get Dial-a-Fix and run it to fix OS/browser damage.

Maybe this is a good one for reimage? You can use one of your free trials and let it magically do the repair (and you'll never have to learn how to actually fix a PC )

I am sorry to say I was not able to save my desktop or Laptop in time. I had to reformat both machines. I even tried to use a copy of the Hiren's Boot disk to save the Laptop, but the damage was too much for me to repair. I do not know if a boot disk (like Hiren's) can save a computer that is at the BSOD point. If there is a better Boot disk out there I would like to know aboout it.
