Video - Cassini Spacecrafts Grande Finale

Absolutely mind boggling that we can hit a moving target millions of miles, or kilometers away. Over the last 20 years it must have traveled billions of miles.

I wonder if someone else's probe has orbited our planet or perhaps they will send Voyager back with a fresh coat of paint!

Was watching the Science Channel (SC) on TV about two hours ago and they interrupted the show to cut live to Cassini Mission Control just prior to the time Cassini was scheduled to crash into Saturn. Everybody was sitting at their stations when you heard somebody say that loss of signal was confirmed, signifying the death of Cassini. A few more minutes later, SC went back to their program. Kinda anti-climatic.

Totally fascinated with space.
I was a member of some space club when I was a kid in the 70's. I think it was sponsored by NASA. I used to get photos of recent space endeavors mailed to me, along with other miscellaneous items. Seem to recall getting a NASA/Space patch once you could put on a jacket.

I was always excited when that new plain vanilla envelope arrived from the club.

Im a bit of a space nerd as I'd imagine many of us here are.

Today the Cassini spacecraft ends its mission and NASA has put together a great rendition of its mission and what its final moments would probably look like.

Being a wide eyed space nerd I've been following Cassini for many years as well as The Voyagers and others.
And it's operating on 20 year old electronics!
Fascinating stuff!
