Vertical pink lines on screen

I have a customer's computer in that has both had a blue screen and when I start it I get no video on the laptop screen while on an external screen I get pink vertical lines. I have attached a log file of the blue screen error. any help would be very appreciated.

What OS / brand of laptop is it?

When you say you "start it", do you mean you don't see anything on the screen at all? laptop wise? or is it when you just try to get into windows?


I googled the file nvlddmkm.sys from the log file file, and what i read, is saying that the driver for the video card is older than vista and / or 7 wants it to be. Which is why i was asking about

The OS is Vista and the Laptop is a Dell XPS.

When I say start it I mean boot it from nothing. When I boot it up the laptop screen lights up but nothing shows, on the other hand when I plug in an external monitor the external will show the screen correctly but with pink lines. also I have gotten it to show on the laptop screen a couple times but with the same pink lines down the screen.

I don't deal with laptops much to be honest, but that "sounds" like a graphic card ribbon inside either came loose, but since it's doing it to the monitor too I'm not sure it could be that, or the graphics card is going bad (researching as we post)

Has anyone looked at the logfile posted in my original post? does it suggest the graphics going out?

It sound as if the video chip needs re balling, it could be the chip has started to separate from the M/B, lines on screen is a good indication of this

How would u go about fixing this? - can it be fixed without replacing the MOBO

you will need to some one who dose Re-balling, or you could try a re-flow, if you google reflow ther is some good vidios on it, I have re-flowed about 8 M/B and only 2 never worked, I think that was down to me being a bit over enthusiastic whit the heat gun (some micro capacitors fell off the underside)
