We had to link two offices with VPN and was told a pair of these routers would work well. We have never setup a VPN, so this would have been our first time. I guess the client had fiber in both locations form the same ISP and the ISP offers a vpn line built into the modems. So we now have two routers with nothing to use them for. We could hold on to them and maybe use them eventually. Is there any advantage to using them in our shop? We are currently just using a consumer tplink router.

I was thinking about setting up a vpn to my house, then I could always do quickbooks remotely. Any other things we could do with these?

The "Unifi" product line really shines when you use all Unifi models in the entire technology stack. Meaning...you have a Unifi router, Unifi switches, and Unifi access points. This is where you get to unleash the power and capabilities of the Unifi controller.

To use each component just stand lone, like "just the USG", or "Just a Unifi switch" Or "Just a Unifi AP"...you really lose out on what the Unifi controller can do, and...to be honest, now you may as well get any other similar spec'd product.

For "stand alone" Ubiquiti products, look at the Edge series over Unifi.

I'd be like.."Put it on the stock shelf..and hopefully you can sell it bundled with Unifi switches and APs to another client, or..take the hit on restocking fee and send 'em back? Or sell at a discount?

If a customer ask me to purchase an item for them then changes their mind they are either on the hook for the restocking fee at my supply house or the cost of the unit if it can't be returned.

they did not change their mind, we made a mistake. We spoke to one person at the isp and they said we would need to create our own vpn, then later on we found out we did not. This was not the clients fault, but ours for not being more diligent in our research

Well in that case can you return them?

Worst case hang on to them or use them for testing or list them on eBay.
