I'm looking for a recommendation for an USB to IDE/SATA adapter. So many times have I connected a clients hard drive internally to my own computer to transfer files/make repairs or to see whats on a lone hard drive that was found lying around. We had one in our shop and it was always hit and miss getting a drive to connect but when it did it was a blessing. Has anyone had any luck with a particular brand/model? Basic requisites; inexpensive, reliable, portable-something I can thrown in my bag and go, and support IDE and SATA.

Adapter

I buy a tremendous amount of parts and tools here

www.Evertek.com

I think they are in San Diego and ship very quickly. Last time I purchased IDE/SATA to USB Adapters, they where around $13 as opposed to $24 at Fry's. Thier shipping is pretty cheap also.

I've got several, different brands, never had a problem with them.
You do need to know a few simple things
1 they do not support the FULL ATA command set, not a problem normally
Unless you are doing data recovery or are using other Hard Drive tools
2 they are slower than Esata, or SATA, or ATA is natively, but this is not big
