Hi, pretty sure this is a bad mobo, but just thought I'd see if anybody else ran across this.
Got in a old Dell Studio xps tower (win 7) powers on fine, keyboard, mouse work fine for a minute or so then it drops off, the pc goes to black, (still running). I reset the bios and it still happens when running the bios diagnostics. Anybody have any ideas? I tried all usb ports too.

Have you got a spare PSU you could swap out?
I do, but already sent it back with him pretty confident it was the mobo, and judging by the condition inside too. Have you seen this resulting from a bad ps?

Yes, often. The PSU will fail after a few minutes (bad caps) but supply enough current through to keep fans/hdd spinning.
Oops, will take your advice next time, I didn't charge him so he wasn't taken anyways. He said he may tinker with it some more.

So did you end up replacing the motherboard?

I don't like my customers tinkering....
No I did nothing, basicly turned down the job, it looked like a hot mess and he said he thought I could get a mobo for under $50 and pop it in (for cheap) and be done. LOL
