upgrade ASUS F554LA-WS52 screen

Hello,

I have the ASUS F554LA-WS52 laptop as seen here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232601R

I am looking to upgrade to the screen to a 1920x1080, glossy, IPS version.

My current screen is 40-pin and can be seen here: http://compvarietyplus.com/screen.jpg

The similar model ASUS F555LA has the same graphics card (Intel HD Graphics 5500) and has a 1920x1080 screen so I am confident mine should be able to display that as well. Not sure about the IPS aspect of it.

Also most of the screens I've seen are 30-pin and I am okay with replacing the cable but will need guidance in picking out the correct one if I go that route.

Not that anyone reads the terms and rules they agreed to when they signed up, but they state that this is a place for repair professionals and people in the business, as you declared yourself to be.

We're a little leery when the first question someone asks is about fixing their personal machine, rather than about business or customer issues., especially an odd request such as yours. Many people claim they are in the business when they sign up, hoping to get free advice, even though most of the technical stuff is available all over the internet. It gets a bit annoying.

So being the repair tech that I am, and furthering my knowledge about laptop repair by also working on my own devices, this makes it a question that's not allowable??? How about if I stated my question saying that it was for a client of mine, would that make it all good?

And the question is not about fixing my machine it is about upgrading it. Nor is it an odd question. There are many people looking to upgrade their laptop displays these days yet Google searches lack the proper information to do it. That being said posting to a forum could be educational to myself and anyone else interested in the subject if it actually leads to further knowledge regarding it that can later be applied to customers etc.

Well, it's just my opinion, so not worth much, but it sounds more like an end user or enthusiasts question. I doubt that this is something someone would pay to have done. I mean, how much could you charge a customer for doing this, how long would it take, and how much profit would you hope to make?

It's a midlevel, $500-$700 laptop, depending on the processor, with not much to recommend it over anything else. If it was my customer and they wanted a laptop with a better screen, I would recommend they sell this and buy one that has what they want.

But I wish you luck with your quest. Maybe I'm wrong and another member will step up and give you what you're looking for.

We have customers that come into our NYC shop all the time looking for screen replacements (for breakage reasons) as well as upgrades. On a regular 15" screen we easily charge $250 for the repair and it's one of the quickest/easiest jobs we do. High profit margin as well.

Now it's not as often, but we've been seeing it more and more with the evolution of IPS and 4k screens, that customers want brighter reds and more definition etc. from their screen and if they can upgrade the screen on a midrange laptop ($500-$700) for $300-$350 certain people will jump on it. If their specs are decent on the laptop and the screen can be upgraded, there's no need to replace it...

with that particular model of laptop... I'd probably avoid doing it.
