Untangle Login

I installed Untangle in bridged mode on a repurposed desktop today. I did the installation off the network except for the WAN side. Everything installed & updated. Once the setup was complete I placed it behind my Edgerouter X and before my Meraki switch and booted the box. While I do have Internet access (I'm here), I'm unable to login to the admin panel for Untangle. I can see the login from the ip address, but it refuses to accept my password. So, I took it out and set it back up on my desk and checked the configuration and I just don't see why it keeps saying my password isn't correct. The log shows multiple failed login attempts due to a bad password but nothing I've tried gets me in. Even the default root password is refused. So, I've taken it back out until I get this resolved.

Mr. Wizard said I could configure the internal NIC later, but the WAN side was necessary. I am assuming (I know, I know) that because I have internet access and the second NIC is set to bridged, the problem lies elsewhere. I haven't seen anything on their forums addressing this so it's probably operator error.

The other possibility is that you set it to a password other than you think you did. Old habits die hard. Try your most common passwords like your Windows password.

Yeah, I went through every possible iteration. I either "fat fingered" it badly, or made a mistake in the configuration and didn't catch it. Either way, it's a good opportunity to reinstall/configure.

Follow up:

So I reinstalled & configured this morning and all is well. It seems that my mistake was in not reading the directions (imagine that). I use a USB switch to move between devices allowing me to use the same keyboard, mouse, & monitor for multiple systems. Apparently Untangle doesn't like that. So, I drug out an old monitor, keyboard & mouse and set the box where it will be placed, and sat on the floor and completed the job. All went well and everything is working as it should.

I see said the blind man:

Map Distribution

Ok, clearly I've been in the dark about various sessions and connections to far away places. I Imagine most are benign, but I'm sure many are not. Hmm, I recall a discussion awhile ago about Geo-blocking and it's usefulness. That's part of the paid app I imagine. Perhaps some light is beginning to penetrate though, giving me direction on what I need to focus my efforts on learning. This gap will get filled!

Hmmm....I have a few Untangle appliances behind a KVM..but....different brands, who knows. She'll hot swap USB keyboards 'n mice just fine.

Geo Blocking is part of the Firewall module, which is in the free version.

It's during the installation process that it seems to have trouble. From Step 2 of the Quick Install Guide:

"If you use a keyboard/monitor switch, do not switch away during installation and configuration, steps 1 through 4."

During the first install using the switch, every time I would Tab to the next field it would lose the mouse. I'd then cycle through the other 3 to get the mouse back and keep going. Apparently it doesn't like that.

Great, I'll have a look.
