Unifi system gonna be prepped for road trip to Maine!

I had plans that weekend you were up here. Maybe next time. Open offer to anyone up here in Maine if anyone wants to meet up for food/drinks.

Interested in getting into Ubiquity networking and camera's. What are you using for your NVR for these cameras?

For most clients, Ubiquitis own NVR.
For our office and rest of the complete, I repurposed an old C2D Dell Optiplex ultra mini small form factor...I think it was a 7010 model. Just installed Ubuntu server on it and the Unifi NVR software.

How much storage space do you have on this box and how many cams? I've never set up surveillance before and wondered what the space requirements are.

Right now just a 1TB.....and 5x cams.
We plan on replacing all the old q-see crap cams that the complex had that was 10 years old when we moved in 10 years ago...lol..so we'll be up around 25 cams at the end, maybe 30.

As for "how much"...it's hard to find answers to this, because, "it depends"
*Resolution you choose for recording
*BitRate you have the cams set to
*FPS you have the cams set to
*Recording all the time, or only during motion. How much motion is there to make it record? Some cameras may never record for days or more. Others...might nearly constantly record.

A rule of thumb from Ubiquiti. Full resolution (1080p), max bitrate (6000kbps), and full 30FPS comes out to 81MB/minute

So there's more math for MAX settings and always recording. Scale down from that.

Looking at a setup I did not long ago, 7 cameras, it's a brewery and bar so always busy...so 1/2 the cams are always recording...a 500 gig drive is quite full, he said he would sling an external USB drive off of it so he'll have to do that.

Out office with 5x cameras...it doesn't have a ton of activity, 5x cameras and I just remoted in to check...only 30 gigs used.

I just remoted into another Unifi video setup I did...7 cams, it's a horse riding stable...sorta busy for a stable, but...not nearly as busy as a brewery/bar, and it's using about 160 gigs.

There are quite a few calculators available to give you an estimate.

We use this one and it usually turns out pretty accurate - http://www.cop-security.com/product.asp?id=1434

Storage isn't expensive these days so whatever you think is required, it's worth a little extra to get 1.5x or 2x more.
