Unifi Cant adopt APs

I have a USG, Cloud Key, Unifi switch, and 4 Unifi AP-AC v2 access points.

When I am logged in to unifi.ubnt.com I can see the 4 APs and they have IP addresses and say pending adoption.

When I click adopt I get a pop up saying the AP has been adopted with a green checkmark. That AP is then removed from the list, but about 5 seconds later it reappears as pending adoption.

Any ideas?

Check the firmware version of the AP I've found some ship with wildly out of date firmware that isn't adoptable by the controller version.

A factory reset and firmware update of the AP should get you going again.

Just be mindful firmware has to be applied in increments you can't just jump from old to the newest version have to step it up slowly.

I have been told by Ubiqiti that the newer controller firmware doesnt support the older AP units I have (AP-AC v2).
They said I can put older firmware on the cloud key and I will be able to use them.

I was wondering if once adopted, I can update the controller firmware back to where it was.

So I downgraded the controller software and firmware. The APs adopted fine but now the USG and switch just say adopting but it never does.

You can't go backwards, you have to go forward. Keep updating everything until it's all in a space where it works.

What is the latest firmware for your aps?

Unifi is usually really good at keeping support going.

Like I said you may have to install firmware in increments to get it working

So now the issue is the controller says the APs are no longer supported and configuration changes wont be provisioned.

Arrrgh.

That's a missing firmware update, I run the most recent controller with the original Unifi AP line, much less the AC line.

Someone hasn't been updating his stuff incrementally like he should.

Yeah, in the release notes for the upgrades they say what hardware is still supported. They can't support everything forever. The new UAP-AC-Lite's are about $80. Time to upgrade. Controller 5.6.40 LTS is the last supported version for Gen 2 AP's.

"* End of Life (EoL) and unsupported as of UniFi Network Controller version 5.7. Download here most current Controller version compatible (v5.6.40 LTS)."

Oh I see it's literally just the UAP-AC WAPs that have fallen off. That's why I didn't run into that problem, I never used those.

If your APs are too old to work with the current controller the. How about running two controllers. An old one for the APs and a new one for the rest.

I would probably never actually do that, would replace and upgrade what’s needed. But as a thought exercise I think it would work.

That's an idea. My other idea was to configure them as needed on the lower firmware and then update.

Honestly, that's probably what I'd do in the interim as well, just put the EOL WAPs on a dedicated controller, while working with the client to phase them out.

Meanwhile, I'm just waiting for Ubiquiti to get off their carcasses and get us a version of the controller that works on a version of Java that doesn't have extortion fees attached... that'd be great!
