A mate of mine who I used to work with on BT rang earlier with a broadband useage problem. He's on a 20GB/month useage plan and has been getting warning emails from BT saying that he's going to bust his limit.
Thing is, he lives on his own and isn't a big user, so it's not like there's half a dozen people in the house all downloading stuff. He even recently went up to Scotland for a week's golfing, switching off all computers, smart TVs and other stuff, leaving just the router connected. When he got back and looked at the BT Useage Monitor, it reported that he'd used 6GB, even though he was 200 miles away and nothing was on in the house!!
He's a reasonably techy guy, having been a BT Telephone Engineer for more than 35 years and I worked alongside him for about 16 years, so I have no reason to doubt the guy. He's on BT Infinity Option 1 and is using the BT Home Hub 5 as the sole connection to the outside world (as opposed to having the white BT Openreach Modem and then the HH5 as a router).
I've never used the HH5 and have no experience of them - is there any way of monitoring the data useage from within the router itself? Some setting perhaps? Or what else would you suggest?
