Trying to get on the first page of SERPs

I want to get placed on the first page (first ten listings) on Google for "state computer repair" and "computer repair state".

I utilize WordPress and the All In One SEO Plugin but know nothing about what to do with it. I've searched and found some articles that explain what I should be doing, e.g. no keyword stuffing and I can't recall what else.

For some reason every time I try to think up some things to add in to the title, description and keywords it always turns out to be spammy. So I would like to know what is the best way to get my site ranked within the first page?

I know it's possible as there is this kid who spams Craigslist and he magically appeared on the first page within the past few months. Thanks!

The best, way, is to literally read, research google. Together with the forum.

yoast for wp is way better. Since i have started using it i am now on the first page in google in about 10 keywords. My business has increased too. yoast all the way. Plus a strong social media present is a must. Link your google plus page to your google plus local page.
