Trying to figure out a name

If you are looking to sell one day, I know that your town + what you do .com should do well with google and keeping it not personal. Riverside computers yeah, too focused. Riverside Tech Support or Riverside Technical Solutions might have a bigger unbrella for you for to do more.

RTS will be good for logo as well, short.

My original name was Riverside Computers. I like it, but Riverside is the name of my little town and I will be servicing a much bigger area than that. Should I even worry about that?

That was one of the companies I owned and I still have the domain riversidecomputers.com.

Not in my opinion. To a much larger audience it implies your office may be along a river. Besides very many companies are named after the cities they started from. "Riverside Computers" is very a comforting thought/connotation for most. Most would rather visit "Riverside Computers" than say..... "Chronic Cal's Chaotic Computers" - heh.

Medics is also descriptive, non-personalized, and easily assumable by anyone that may wish to run your business in the future. It contributes to the understanding of what you do, and is a little bit cutesy and memorable.

Someone's last name is rarely any of those things.

True, I was more intending to point out that a name which is too generic can't actually be trademarked down the road. But, yeah, using your name in a business name probably doesn't have any real benefit there.

Do you have a domain name? I see riversidecomputers is taken

Usually the domain name of it isn't much of a problem. RiversideComputers.com may be taken but something like RiversideComp.com is available. Focus on the name at this point unless there are overriding concerns about domains.

if I could name a support company it would be ridiculous and awesome. Lazer Falcon Technologies as a nice ring to it.

really sticks in your mind.

Didn't read everything, but T-Tech solutions comes to mind. It's catchy.

Or Top Tech. Something short, catchy that rolls of the tongue.

IMHO using Tech is okay to use, but like OP stated, many PC business use Tech which is why I decided to add a "Z" to the end of mine, "Quik Techz". Many of you have some good key points on a good business name(wish I could have came across this forum sooner as I would have used a different name. My reason for using "Quik Techz" is because a lot of businesses around my area use the word "Quik" as stating there fast, and for the second part "Techz" is because I plan on hiring remote technicians who will be able to provide solutions quickly for a wide range of problems in PC and mobile devices. It's short, simple and rolls off the tongue.

After reading some comments, I am rethinking the name. As one post states "what kind of tech are you". I was thinking of adding "PC and Mobile Solutions (Repairs) done Fast" to my tagline. Does that help separate the herd?

Did I make the wrong choice? I hope not as I purchased my domain already. o_O

That is not much of a concern to me. Look at "Uber", "Google", "Lyft", I don't even have my site completed and I had over 70 visits last month. If spelling is a big concern why is your username misspelled. Is it your last name?

Edit: forgot to quote you, my bad. @Computer Bloke I just did a Google search for bloke, wow learned something new "bloke--a slang term for a man or fellow " i stand corrected you can spell. I guess i better go back to English class.;)

Thanks for the tips everyone. I think Riverside Computers will work fine and I already have some logos and advertising with that name on it and a registered DBA in the city.

If I wanted to change it from Riverside Computers to Riverside Tech Support in the future but keep the same logo, domain, etc. Would that confuse customers or hurt my Google search results? I'm thinking not significantly but anyone have experience with something like that?

I had an issue with my domain, I couldn't get the .com so I used the .biz and finally 9 years later, the .com sold it back to me. It was kind of worthless as I had so much invested into the .biz. I bought it anyway so I could forward it to the .biz and setup "lisa@callthatgirl.com" and I do get missed emails!

If you are going to rebrand and get a new "business" it's best to keep everything close to the same. I would keep the same site, rebrand it to and buy the domain and forward to to the original. I have changed my business niches (onsite, stores, computer repair to only Outlook and Office 365) but always kept callthatgirl. You can do it, just be sneaky :)
