Time to tape over your Tv's camera!

Smart TV's are stupid. Never understood why people thought that integrating "SMART" into the TV was a good idea. Just get a Chromecast, Roku, etc etc.. atleast the "SMART" can be upgraded down the road.

It really sucks when your smart TV is no longer supported or Android upgraded = Store programs no workie workie = Dumb TV.

That has nothing to do with cameras. No one was peeking at you in your underwear with a bowl of popcorn on your stomach, blearily watching Twin Peaks at 2am. Wait, that's TMI.

The FTC went after Vizio for tracking user's viewing habits, location, etc., and selling that information to third parties. You know, exactly like you should assume EVERY cable company, website, online store or similar service provider does.

The key point is that Vizio never asked permission to do this. So in the future, I'm sure, Vizio will bury some tiny print in the initial setup of their TVs requiring the the user to approve the legalese or return their new TV. People will continue to blindly click "next" until they find the Kardashian channel and settle in for some wholesome family entertainment.

Agreed 100%. And I thought integrating VHS and DVD players into TV's was a bad idea. At least those wouldn't become a useless brick because the manufacturer doesn't want to "update" them anymore. My TV isn't "smart" and I'm dreading the day it dies. I bought a "smart" TV and returned the darn thing. It was one of those LG's with the remote that you have to wave around like an air mouse. It was a complete PAIN IN THE BUTT! I just connect my computer to my TV, so my TV is just a big monitor. The last thing I need is my monitor constantly wanting to restart for updates, or taking 2 minutes just to turn on.

Vizio is not the first and won't be the last.

Back before smart tv's and such Tivo was doing this with all of their boxes and so was DirecTV and DishNetwork.

Same stuff, different time and vendor.

Glad I bought my TV years ago. 52 inch non smart Sony Briava (SP?).

I am to understand that even if you buy a smart tv and do not hook it up to the internet you will get nag windows telling you that setup isnt complete and you need to hook it up to the internet to "enjoy all the features". LOL...

I can just see it, You have to click a box to accept the terms of usage and if you do not then the setup will not complete and everytime you turn it on you will go back into the setup again. So, In essence as others have said here, you return the tv.

I have a "Soniq" Smart TV that displays ads for JB-HIFI, Cinnavision and Google on the screen everytime it is switched on. You must manually push the "Home" button on the remote to go to fullscreen or sit there and watch the ads!
Also the program schedule, clock, weather, program description etc etc "features" will not work without an active internet connection!
Even with an internet connection, you cannot install any third party apps, even though you can "browse the Play Store."
