The FTC went after Vizio for tracking user's viewing habits, location, etc., and selling that information to third parties. You know, exactly like you should assume EVERY cable company, website, online store or similar service provider does.
The key point is that Vizio never asked permission to do this. So in the future, I'm sure, Vizio will bury some tiny print in the initial setup of their TVs requiring the the user to approve the legalese or return their new TV. People will continue to blindly click "next" until they find the Kardashian channel and settle in for some wholesome family entertainment.
